I'm going to get the 8830 at the end of this month, though I am bothered by the fact that Verizon disabled navigation. However, can you open up mapquest through the browser and get directions? This would be enough for me.

You could, but will probably like to download Google Maps, Google Maps. It is a great free mapping program. I personally like it better than the already installed BB Maps.

Google Maps is by far the best in my opinion, however there are others out there too. Yahoo GO is one of them that is decent too

When I downloaded Google Maps, it would not work on a Verizon 8830. VZW locked out the GPS.

even though the GPS doesn't work, everything else still does. it would be nice to have the GPS, but even w/o it it is still a good program

You won't find any program on the 8830 to work w/ the internal GPS including Mapquest.

GPS works fine on Sprint 8830s. Only Verizon is disabling the internal GPS.
