I am almost 100% sure that the answer is NO. unfortunately, even if you paid full price outright.

the SIM card port CAN BE UNLOCKED TO BE USED BY ANY SIM, however this will be of no use to you in North America, as the 8830's GSM bands are for European/Asian areas. So, if you frequently travel to Europe for example and have a European SIM, it can be unlocked to use your European SIM in your 8830 to avoid the outrageous North American roaming charges.

And actually, Sprint 8830's come with the SIM slot already unlocked. For Verizon, you must pay them to give you the unlock codes. It's like any GSM phone.. the SIM slot can be unlocked if it was locked in the first place.

That's not what he's talking about. He's talking about his ESN being locked out of the network. He either bought the phone used or something like that and got one that was from an outstanding account. In this case Sprint locks the the ESN so that you cannot use the phone on their network without paying the outstanding balance. Then as a separate thing, he didn't quite understand why he can't just use the SIM card in phone with another carrier in the US.

adamh10, you have to read the details.... Everyone and their mother knows the 8830 SIM slot/GSM radio is for non-US frequencies and that Sprint came unlocked while VZW's locked theirs. Also, you DON'T have to pay VZW to unlock your SIM card slot. You just need an account in good standing if you bought the 8830 at a discount or a non-long standing account w/full retail pay for the 8830 when you bought it. This is the correct info.

I believe what he's saying is that Sprint locked the ESN, because he didn't pay his bill,or bought one from an overdue account and wants to get the ESN released, without paying the outstanding balance. Correct?
If thats what you mean, then no, you can't.

The SIM slot on the 8830 can be unlocked, but on your Sprint 8830, it comes that way.
Although in the US, the SIM slot can't be used, as the GSM bands are different..
