I am a new BB user, 8830. In the Bluetooth options there are two selections, Discoverable and Address Book Transfer, that are apprently locked. Both of these are selected to NO with a small red padlock in front of it. Can anyone explain what these options do and if there is any way to defeat the lock. Thanks, Harry

Discoverable setting allows the device to pair with a compatable BT device (car kit, etc.), Transfer Address Book allows the device to share it's contents with a paired car kit.

To enable, BT > select device > Menu > Options > Discoverable > Yes

BT > select device > Menu > Options > Transfer Address Book > choose an option

The small red padlock icons are typically associated with an IT policy. Look in your Options/Security/General Settings. If you have anything listed under "IT Policy Name:," you have an IT policy controlling access to various setting and functions on your bb. If your bb was provided by your employer, you are on a BES account and your IT admins have prohibited your using bluetooth, most likely for security reasons.

If you bought the bb used, the IT policy was left by the previous owner. In this case, you can follow the following procedure to remove it.

NOTE: you cannot use this procedure to remove a lock if you are currently on a BES account. The next time you attempt to log in, the Policy will be reinforced and you may get in trouble for attempting to defeat it.
