I am trying to run a Third party application - mobile trading platform from FX Solutions - on my 8830 from Alltel, but get a socket error repeatedly. I have worked with FX Solutions and Alltel extensively to resolve the issue - even having them on the phone together. FX Solution tells me that Verizon, ATT, Singular, etc. all have published APN info that allows their BB devices to run the software. Alltel, however, advises they have no APN input info and that it should run just fine without it. Alltel has taken it all the way to their in-house RIM person who now advises I need to go to the BB developers website and get their support at a substantial cost. Has anybody experienced this type of a problem with an Alltel device and have you been able to get around it?

There is no APN needed for CDMA carriers. (Sprint, Alltel, VZW) There was a bug with previous OS versions that if you messed with the APN settings at all, 3rd party apps wouldn't work anymore through socket connections. The fix was to do a wipe from the Security Menu and try again WITHOUT modifying the APN settings.

Try Opera Mini via the Socket connection setting (check it in the OM Settings once it connects to make sure it's Socket and not something else, it detects its own settings). If OM fails to connect, then it's what I said above. If it doesn't, then it could be something else with those other apps. Also if you're on a BES, it could even be the BES policy set to not allow network communications for 3rd party apps.
