Looking to find out what the maximum size MicroSD memory card that the 8830 will handle? What's the max anybody here has been able to succesfully use? I've read a few threads of problems with 2gb...
    Thanks in advance! Cheers, PDQ

2GB is the max size, only the Curve can handle the 4GB card right now.

    It's a software issue.

You can most certainly use the 4GB MicroSDHC card in the 8830. I'm doing it right now as well as several people on the "other" Blackberry forum.

My friend just showed me his 8830 last week, he is successfully using a 4 Gig card. I have the 2 Gig card, because I errantly believed a post by somebody that the 8830 couldn't use larger than a 2 gig card.

LOL - thanks for the empirical evidence!

EITH - Did you format the disk on a PC first or in your 8830?

No, I just popped it in and it worked. I haven't tried to format it at all.

Go to a Verizon shop! A friend of mine called a local Verizon, and they had some and tested it in a 8830...

This is the best price I found on 4GB microSD cards ($39.99) Electronics Cabling accessories. I've used them before to order Tivo stuff and they seem to be honest.

Does a microSD card really add memory or just hard drive space

The only thing you can really store and use from the BB are media files. It doesn't help with applications or messages, etc.

I was at a Verizon store yesterday, saw the memory cards on display and asked him why they didn't have the 8GB card that I had seen at the Verizon online store. He said that 4GB was the max that the 8830 currently handled - and that the only way a larger card could be accomodated would be with a future software upgrade - although he hadn't heard of any such upgrade feature that was forthcoming.

I went to a Verizon kiosk in a Circuit City to buy an SD card. They told me the biggest the 8830 could handle was 4G. They sold me a SanDisk, popped it in for me, and it didn't work. They first tried the intall command, and then the format command. It didn't work. Then they told me I needed a software update, and that I had to go to a Verizon store to get it. I went there, and they told me I had to go home, go to the VZ website, and download and install the latest update for VZ Nav. (which I think is BS, so I didn't do it)

How do I get the 4G card to work? Is it a bad card? Or should I get a 2G instead? Many thanks.

MY BAD! While typing this, I just took out the SD card, reinserted it, rebooted, and now it shows as being installed. I guess the Verizon guy can't even install an SD card right. No "update" necessary.

Of course, its showing as having only 3.7G storage (on a 4G card), but hey, this is progress.

it's been months and no microsdhc help on any software updates... anyone know when a 6GB card will work on an 8830? I rushed out to get it and was one of the first with the formatting problem and tried to fix it obviously with no luck like anyone else so I put it on the backburner for a couple of months now and still haven't heard of any updates.

Not sure what the beef is? The blackberry site states that >4GB support won't be available until OS 4.3 is out for our devices.

BBs do not have hard drives. Adding a media (memory) card allows you to store more media files (videos, pics, music, etc.).
