I will be going to Australia to study abroad for a semester and I was wondering if anyone knows if the 8830 from Alltel comes unlocked. Also I dont want to get the sim card from the company they suggest since the prices are much higher. I plan to purchase a sim card from a company there but all the websites I have looked at say you need a GSM 900/1800 compatible phone. The 8830 uses CDMA, will this phone still work with those kind of sim cards?
I just got back from Thailand with my 8830 phone. I bought a SIM card and phone number over thereand changed a few settings and it worked fine on GSM. Don't know if that helps. Where I went they let me try a SIM card first to make sure it worked before I purchased. If I were you I would wait until I got there to purchase anything.
