    Greetings!
Here is the scenario, Im tired of carrying two phones (or forwarding). My employer who uses Verizon does not allow (blocks somehow) texting. On my personal AT&T phone I have all services.

I want to be able to send /receive text on my work phone. I was thinking maybe I could unlock it and use the SIM from AT&T just for the texting services. Any other ideas or solutions or work arounds would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Q.) Can I unlock the 8830 to be used on ATT (cingular) or T-Mobile?
A.) NO. The 8830’s GSM operates in the 900 / 1800 Mhz band where as T-Mo and AT&T use 850 / 1900 in the united states. You can not do ANYTHING to make this work. If you want a 8800 series, buy the 8800 or 8820 which is GSM.

Ask the Storm group. It has CDMA and GSM.

About the only phone available right now that you could use like this would be the Storm. The CDMA radio can be activated with Verizon. The GSM SIM slot can be unlocked to use with AT&T's EDGE network (won't run 3G with AT&T).

The Niagara is supposed to have the same radio set in it as the Storm, so you might be able to do this with the 9630, once released. The 8830 won't be able to do it.

Thank you for the replies. Going from a bulk of my communications being through text and now not having that capability is really trying.

    Thanks again.
