Is there a way to make a number save as Mobile instead of Work when dialing it and then choosing to save it?

IE - I am dialing a number 555-5555 and decide I want to save it, press the blackberry button and select "Add to Address Book". Well when it does that, the number I had entered shows up under Work: instead of my intended Mobile: selection. Can I set Mobile to be the default "Save To..." option?

I found it easier entering a new entry in Outlook and let it sync up.

Since I don't use outlook, will this sync just as well with say thunderbird/gmail or is there an easy way to sync with the newly aquired grandcentral (from google)
