New to the 8830 as of Friday. Couple of questions that aren't addressed in the manual or on the blackberry/VZW websites:

    1) Can the 8830 handle an 8gb micro SDHC memory card? If not, what's the largest sized card it can handle?

    2) I see that the BB website has OS 4.3 available, should I upgrade to that OS? I see that folks are anxiously awaiting v. 4.5. The CD that came with the device has 4.2.2, although the CS girls assured me that was the most up-to-date version.

    3) Is there a brick-n-mortar store where they sell skins and cases that I can see/hold before buying?

    Thanks,

    BH

There is not a 4.3 OS for the 8830. I think what you are looking at is the Desktop Manager.

You can go to pretty much any mall and find a kiosk that has cellphone accessories.

Without presuming to argue with blueberry23, I would suggest that you use your new blackberry for a few days as-is, and get familiar with its quirks, especially if you've never owned a blackberry before, before you attempt the relatively straightforward process of upgrading the OS. The latest version from Verizon for the 8830 is 4.2.2.176. There are later OS versions from other vendors, which you can use. As sunkast pointed out, the 4.3 refers to the desktop manager. I use DTM 4.3 with my 8830. There's no reason not to use that. But if the first thing you attempt to do is replace the OS, and something goes wrong (which it does, rarely), then you may end up with a bigger recovery challenge than you want to have to face. However, if you do have a problem, the folks on the forum can almost certainly help you recover.

OS 4.2.2.176 supports up to a 4GB microSD card.

OK, cool. Thanks. So to recap, the current OS for the 8830 is the v.4.2.2 and the current specs on the 8830 allow for the v.4.3 desktop manager.

    Also, the 8830 accepts a 4gb microcard.

Perhaps this info should be added to the FAQ?

    Thanks all,

To fully specify the OS, you have to quote all 4 fields: 4.2.2.176 OS for the Verizon. Some carriers are already up to 4.2.2.196.
