Newb question - for the first month, I used the travel charger, but last weekend I tried to charge my 8830 with the USB, and was informed that I lacked the correct drivers. I take it the DSW includes this, but the IT guy here told me NOT to install the DSW. Is there a way to get the charging drivers without installing the DSW?
Getting power from the USB is not dependent on having the drivers or DSW installed. A USB plug is basically "hot" when you plug in even if your device is not immediately recognized.
When you connect, Windoze will detect a plug and play device and want to install software (it will do this every time you plug in until you install drivers) which is kind of a pain esp. if your IT guy told you not to install drivers. BTW your IT guy will know that you connected.
That's what I thought, but when I plugged it in, the blackberry told me it wasn't charging. The laptop didn't seem to care; it recognized the device but didn't say anything else. The "we can't do this" message was on the BB screen. What do I tell it to install other than the DSW? Is the driver that enables charging available by itself?
My 8830 will not charge either. It says there is not enough current. Other blogs say to instal DSW to get the USB drivers but I am running on enterprise server. I do not connect to sync up. I this this is why the IT guy says don't install. How can I change the USB driver without installing DSW?
Check one of the links upthread - you can use the CD for the DSW to get just the USB drivers, without actually installing the DSW. One of those links also has a download site for the drivers. I no longer recall what I did in May to fix it, but it was quick and easy based on the info I received here. Good luck!
