I just a got a blackberry 8830 we as a gift, but it came with sprint and my whole family is on verizon. Is there any way that i can use it on the verizon network?

Sprint phones are programmed to only work on Sprint's network. They contain a Sprint PRL and firmware that would clash with what Verizon uses.

Nope, cdma carriers won't activate phones on other networks.

There are two options available to you
1) Sell the phone and get a VZW Curve
2) Get a Sprint Unlimited plan and forget about the usage of your minutes.

Lots of bad information in this thread. 100% wrong about firmware. Just change the MSL to 000000, activate in on Verizon and then update the PRL.
