    I know everyone says its impossible without breaking the warranty on the 8800 and 8300, but try this.

    Just like you were to clean a trackball (as stated in the Clean Trackball thread, sorry it won't let me post the url, but do a search for it)

    Then the thread says to use a sharpie, however, that voids the warranty. I thought i would try a small tiny piece of ribbon or any colored paper (around the house) and all of a sudden i had a blue trackball. It dims it a bit, but assuming you find different paper thicknesses, it should be fine.

    Overall, its an easy way not to void the warranty (visibly at least.)

    If you need to go to the store for service, just pop the trackball out and blow out the piece of paper and your back to new.

    (I would suggest trying to only cover the actual LED and none of the other parts, which might interfere with the functionality of the trackball)
