I have a Storm and all my info is backed up on DM. Now that I have purchased a 8830 I would like to at LEAST sync my address book. But when I try to just hit RESTORE it backs up everything BUT my address book. THEN when I go to use the device switch wizard it gives me an error saying "A fatal error has occured while trying to update your device's software"

I have not used it but there is, I believe, an Advanced Option under Restore where you can select the items to restore selectively. Give that a try.

You need to make sure your cache is cleared before you do the back-up. Also some news readers create issues...Then you can use DM to switch phones.
