Just got a Sprint Blackberry 8830, I know I can use micro SD cards up to 2 gb, what about the micro SD "High Capacity" cards, are those compatible?

Great question as I am a new BB owner and have a 2gig card but how many gigs are you talking about?

i just got an 8830 and put the 2 gig card in. It is now 2/3 full. I have full 20 cd's stored in there (about 20 hours of play time) but the access time to pick a 'track' is probably 15 seconds. It will only get slower with more songs added - maybe you are looking for video

That is a lot of CD's. What is the largest card that can be used?

The regular Micro SD cards only go up to 2gb, but Micro SDHC (High Capacity) go up to 6 gb (maybe higher),

I'm just wondering if Micro SDHC will work in the 8830??

You mean it takes 15 seconds to scroll through your songs to pick what you want or 15 seconds to begin playing once you've picked a song?

From the music menu, I can select albums and the album names (about 20) will appear immediately, once I select an album it then takes 15 seconds to display the song list within that album. Once the song list is displayed then I can select a track and it will play immediately

I ordered the Sandisk 4GB MicroSDHC (MicroSD High Capacity) Memory Card (SDSDQ-4096-E11M, Retail Package) from Amazon.com (it is really coming from Tech4bargains.com). Price hovers around $40 not including S&H.

Price at my local Staples store was $110.

Bought it because I have read several posts from people that actually use this card in their 8830 (and it comes with 2 adapters). Considered the 6GB but only found people posting problems with it - doesnt seem to work with our model. So I decided to play it safe and go with the known factor.

    It should arrive soon.

I've been trying to get the maximum card issued figured out and I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that with the current OS (operating system) the maximum card is 4GB. There is a newer OS (4.3) coming out, due about now. I think I've read some references to it being tentatively released and then pulled back. This new OS is supposed to support 6GB cards.

I read same thing as the above poster - 4gb is the current max and the 4.3 OS ups the support to 6gb.. I'd like to see it support the 8gb, but since that's not cheap enough for me - lol - 6gb is just fine

    easy workaround:
just post the URL, but change the "http" to "httX" and then remind us all to switch "httX" to "http" when we copy and paste.

    httx://www.crackberry.com
don't forget to replace "httx" with "http"

Got my Sandisk 4GB MicroSDHC yesterday and I can confirm that it works with the my Verizon 8830 WE Blackberry (v 4.2.2.148).

It shows up as 3.7GB total that has more to do with the nomenclature of marketing GB vs actual GB (3.7 actual GB = 3,972,844,748.8 actual bytes = 4 GB in layman's/marketing terms).

What is the diff between the 4G card and the 4G HC card?
    Found this on the web:
SDHC or SD High Capacity is the newest memory card format and is only compatible with the latest devices which show the SDHC logo. SD HC cards start at 4GB and are currently available up to 8GB. SD HC was invented to allow for new digital devices that use high megapixel cameras and high quality video. SDHC memory cards also come in 3 speeds. These are
class 2 , class 4 and class 6. These are all measures of read/write speed in MBp/s.
Hmmm, my Sandisk is the slowest - Class 2. Guess I should have done more research before buying

You have to format the card while it is in the BlackBerry.

Hi, I'm new to the 8830 and I couldn't get a 4 gn mine and 2 gb micro card to work. However, I did get a 512 to work. I kept getting a format message with the 2 and 4 gb cards. I had them both working with my PC to copy data. Any suggestions?

    Thank you Tony

From the research I've done, I've learned that there are no 4gb MicroSD cards, only 4gb Micro SDHC cards.

MicroSD cards = 2gb and below
MicroSDHC cards = 4gb and up

I use a 4gb sandisk Micro SDHC card in my Curve 8300.

Hope this helps. I'm just a newbie here...

I didn't know this so I had to transfer music back onto the micro SD card again.

alright, well I thought my Micro SD 6gb card was working fine with my 8830 but when I go to format it, it says it is a 1.69GB card I don't like the look of that? Anyone know why it says it's only 1.69 gb instead of 6gb?

That is the problem others seem to be having. I believe the 4.2 firmware doesn't support 6 GB. Do a search for micrsd and you should find the threads.
