I have searched this site to prevent duplication, but to no avail. My question is simple: is a Telus 8830 unlocked on the GSM side? I would like to be able to purchase GSM cards during my travels in Europe.

    Thanks,

    Kem

Here is another 8830 question I have been having trouble finding an answer for.

Does the GSM portion have any connection to the devices ESN?

In other words if the phone I have has a bad ESN, I know I can't use it with CDMA or atleast Telus won't activate it for me.

How about if I take it overseas and use the GSM portion, will this work if I put in a SIM card or will it still not be able to be activated?

I could be wrong, but from what I've read, the ESN is basically the security needed to run your BlackBerry, so if it is a bad ESN I doubt it could be used for any sort of service whether it be calls or whatever, but I could be wrong, if anybody has any ideas to add or correct me if I'm mistaken, please provide input
