I've had my 8830 WE for almost 2 years now, and have went through 2 so far. My question is since I don't travel outside the country are there any other benefits to keeping this model and not upgrading? The lack of camera, no Wi-Fi, memory problems, headphone jack, and now mine will not charge w/o delicate manipulation.
Should I be looking at another model? and if so what is comparable to the 8830 as far as simplicity, but picks up where 8830 leaves off?

The 9630 is the direct replacement for the 8830. It has everything you are looking for except wifi. It has a 3.2 MP auto-focus camera, ample memory, a standard size headphone jack, and an oddly placed microUSB port. The Tour 2 will probably have wifi, and will probably be out in a few months, but I can't be more specific than that.

The 9630 is an awful phone that is being replaced ASAP due to massive hardware problems.

The 8530 has everything (including WiFi) that the OP is looking for and none of the hardware defects of the 9630.

I haven't had any hardware problems with my early 9630. OS 4.7.1.61 fixed the worst software problem, which was the horrible lag in the trackball.

A quick scan of the specs shows the 8530 is very similar to the 9630. It has wifi which the 9630 doesn't, a lower resolution camera than the 9630, and is not a world phone, which isn't important to the OP. It might be a better candidate for the OP than the 9630, but since I've never used one, I can't recommend it.

Requiring wifi limits your choices. Otherwise the 8330 would be an excellent, cheap replacement for the 8830. It doesn't have the memory of a new phone, but it doesn't have the growing pains either.

Sorry, I was thinking of VZW's release and did not realize you were talking about Sprint.

$300 new isn't that expensive. How much are you looking to spend?

out of pocket?........about $100-$150. Which is what I paid for my 8830 2 years ago. I refuse to take the discounted priced fro Sprint in exchange for a longer contract

Newer, more functional, more effective phones that have more memory, like you request, come with a price. I have an 8830 and am seriously jonesing for an improved product, but hate paying that price as well. But, it is what it is.

Looking at paying $200-300 for a one year on a Tour II, Storm II or a Droid. All pricey....

You want a brand new Blackberry for $100 without any discount from Sprint? I can think of only two options:

    1. Get a used Curve 8330 from Ebay
    2. Get a better paying job

Like I said when I bought my 8830 2 years ago I only paid $100 bucks and it was brand new. So why is that not possible with a 8330 or better?

thanks for the input. I'll update what I ultimately choose, but my 8830 has turned to crap with this charging issue so it's time to replace
