- No, but I was wondering if it was a plot to get everyone to sign up for the VZW BIS which requires their data plan.
Are all the other people with the calendar synching problem not signed up with an email on the BIS account?06-05-07 10:37 PMLike 0 - After reading some of the techniques used by others on this forum I decided to experiment myself. Up until now no amount of new service books, reinstalling the BB OS, loading new Desktop Manager software and sacrificing the rare umbrella nose newt to Pele` has resulted in me being able to sync (by USB) my BB 8830 and my Outlook Calendar.
Well, I went into the BIS set-up page and added one of my at home email addresses. Once configured and confirmed by an email received on my BB8830 I attempted a sync. I created a test entry on my BB8830. When I did the sync it WORKED!!!
I even removed the new entry that was copied from the 8830 to Outlook and did a sync again. This time it wanted to update my 8830 by removing it.
It would appear that this has fixed the sync issue for the time being. However, I am not very fond of having a email address coming to my 8830 other than the actual BB email via Verizon. This means I get all the spam on my 8830 that normally comes to that account.
Perhaps Verizon and RIM will actually come up with a REAL fix for this issue.
I just hope this fix does not come "uncrunk" as we say here in Alabama!06-06-07 11:12 AMLike 0 - I personally have added a gmail account and also my bellsouth.net accounts and still have absolutely no luck with the sync. I currently have 1 IMAP email address and 2 POP email addresses. I still cant' get the sync, but I can create the appointments on my computer and then sync to my BB. I have no problems doing so. So in other words, I'm ok with waiting for a fix. Now if I can figure a way to get the GPS working, I'd be set.06-06-07 11:25 AMLike 0
- Ok...now I lied. I went ahead and added a vzw.blackberry.com email address to my BB that I will never use, resent my service books, and it just magically worked. My calendar shows 24 entries, which isn't much for my busy self, but it seems to be working over bluetooth sync. I haven't tried wired, but we'll see.06-06-07 11:44 AMLike 0
- Yes! I use two different ringtones (one preloaded, one custom) and I can't hear either one of them very well, especially in the car -- and not at all when the stereo's on. (My old LG cellphone worked great in the same environment.)
I've got both ringers set to "High" but that's not enough. Is there another way to crank it up? (Can you "turn it up to 11"?)06-06-07 12:08 PMLike 0 - My 8830 has a strange issue in that it has an intermittent sync issue for the contacts. all other apps sync fine.
One day I have all 600 contacts in my phone and the next day there are only 15 or 17 or however many it decides I need that day.
Anyone resolved this type of issue?
thanks
Confused06-11-07 04:27 PMLike 0 - After, many hours logged this weekend on threads and on the phone (and in the store) with Verizon I found there is NO support for Mac on the new Blackberry 8830, nor is there any to look forward to in the near future. Currently, there seems to be no way to connect your mac with the media section of the phone so don't think you'll be getting any tunes of pics on there soon.
It's too bad, because the phone is really cool but with the whole quiet ringer issue and lack of mac support, it looks like you shoudn't get one unless you are a PC user.
If I'm wrong, about this, please tell me cause at this point I'm desperate to figure it out or I'm just gonna take it back...

Now for the truth. Set your Media Card settings to report the device as a Mass Storage Device when plugged in. Your lame Mac should pick that up as another drive letter. Also, you do know that you can pull out the media card and put that joker in the adapter and plug it into your laptop... right? Or is it that your Mac doesn't have an SD card reader built in? :P06-25-07 10:17 PMLike 0 - When I first got my 8830 I spoke to tech support at Verizon and Blackberry. This is a known bug. They told me to watch for patch, which should be coming soon at vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry.
In the meantime, I delete calendar manually before I sync to avoid duplication.06-26-07 01:47 PMLike 0 - First of all, Macs suck because apperently they cannot pickup a BB and load up drivers for it. How funny is that? I thought Macs could speak all languages/protocols and link up with all the fancy tech devices... isn't that what those commercials try to say? Lame.

-Actually, yes, the Mac can communicate with BB. It requires the use of a conduit to talk to it, which is exactly what a PC does with a conduit included within the 'Blackberry Desktop Software'. Neither platform recognizes or syncs with a BB out of the box.
-No, setting your BB to "Mass Media Storage" will not cause it to be recognized by Mac OS X. It will not mount the drive (OS X doesnt assign drive letters; we are not limited by the alphabet ). The only way to sync media to the BB is by using MissingSync. PocketMac (which is distributed and supported by RIM) will sync everything but media. After that, without MissingSync, you're on your own, and must plug in your MicroSD into the computer.
-Yes, Apple computers do not come with a SD/MiniSD/MicroSD slot, but many cards of any SD flavor nowadays come with their own USB adapter, as well for those PC's that do not have SD slots (like the one I'm posting from right now). Most home PC's do not have removable media slots, save for USB purposes, only laptops do.
This post is not aruging for argument's sake (DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS!). This is merely to educate those who may wish to make an informed decision about what platforms they would like to use. You CAN use a Mac with a BB, if you choose to do so, without much hitch or problem. Just like Macs have trouble syncing media, so do PC's have trouble syncing to Outlook. Each side has its own downfalls; pick one and deal with itLast edited by [email protected]; 06-26-07 at 06:52 PM. Reason: typo

With all the problems I know about with Microsoft Vista I may not custom build my next high end photo editing PC around the Windows OS and just buy a Mac Pro.06-26-07 09:14 PMLike 0 - Originally Posted by [email protected]Just like Macs have trouble syncing media, so do PC's have trouble syncing to Outlook. And BTW, when the BB is set to Mass Storage Device it registers just like any other USB drive you'd plug into a PC so there should be no reason for a Mac not to pick it up and treat it as a "Removable Drive" aside from some kind of shortcoming. But hey, like you said, to each his own, but I don't agree with the troll poster coming on here and bashing the 8830 (which mind you I'm not putting on a pedestal either) because it doesn't work with his lame *** Mac.... Neither does any of the other 99% of all software and games one can pick up from the shelf of a store in today's world, but he forgot to mention that one.
Don't take this personally, I know I'm going off on you, but I honestly just despise the BS false or rather "perceptive truth" advertisements that Apple puts out about their Mac products. I think if we all lived in a perfect world I'd build an OS that could run ANY software REGARDLESS of the platform it was developed for, but then we wouldn't have our little economic fights and competition at the cost of the consumer and the gain of the individual, money hungry, large conglomerate owner.06-26-07 09:16 PMLike 0 -
I tell you what, build me a Mac that can run games and apps without special circumstances and I'm there. Not only that, but hardware wise the Mac (IntelMacs) of todays world aren't even "hardware unique" anymore. There is litterally nothing special about a MacPro notebook and an MS running notebook. They both have the SAME hardware. Only difference is the Mac has OEM/BIOS locked DRM to only run MacOSX.
****, for that matter I can run MacOSX on my laptop. It's not native and it has to be manipulated to happen (due to software lockouts from Apple), but it runs just as well. Honestly, there is no good argument left to help Apple in the overall apect of things. People who like to use them need to stop complaining about them not being able to run any software that doesn't start with "i" just like PC people need to stop blaming their BSODs on software when in fact it's more likely faulty hardware.06-26-07 09:25 PMLike 0 - The biggest problem my friends who run a computer parts and service store report is that Vista won't run with a lot of software and hardware. They quit selling the pre-packed Vista systems and went back to XP. Dell has also returned to offering XP as an OS option on some of their business machines.
I depend upon computing power for conversion of my RAW digital images into high resolution TIFF files for final editing. Vista sucks so much of this power to run stupid things and from sheer code bloat. I would rather have a conversion take 8 seconds per image (I sometimes convert hundreds at a time) on XP than 20 seconds each on Vista.
I also participate in the distributed computing project SETI (six machines in my farm). Some of the faster calculating machines are Macs.06-27-07 06:15 AMLike 0 - So, has anyone tried the new OS from Bell Mobility for the Verizon 8830? Judging from the package version, it should fix the calendar issues on the 8830.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...646D38BC2145CA06-28-07 12:30 PMLike 0 - I have always used a PDA to sync with my Microsoft Outlook Server. I would sync my mail, calendar, contacts and tasks wirelessly. MY BB8830 will only sync mail unless I use the USB port. Is this the way BB works? If so, what can I do except return it for a PDA? It does me no good to be on the road and not get my schedule updated. I don't want to buy BB Enterprise as I'm the only one in the office that uses a BB.10-08-07 07:48 PMLike 0
- My wife uses TM V8 (Lexus-Nexus Law / Practice Management). For the life of me, I have been unable to get her contacts to get over to the BB. I've deleted and re-installed the apps using AppLoader in DTM V4.2 SP2, and I've verified "Filter" / "Scope" settings in TM, and I've enabled Time Matters Synchronization Options.
Looks like the last few Contacts entered for example are the only ones to make it to the phone.
Once, and only once, I got what I think was her full contact lists transferred.
This is not fun, no way, no how.
