I just landed in Sydney and I'm unable to make calls with my 8830. It says it is in SOS mode but seems to be able to display the vodaphone AU network in the network list.

I also lost my wallet card with the local numbers you can call.. so i have two questions..

1.) does anyone know the local (sydney australia) verizon number?

2.) Anyone else run into this problem and know the answer?

I'm pretty sure verizon has coverage here so i'm unsure as to why my phone isn't working. .. and yes i got the sim card from verizon.

This happened to me last week in Hong Kong upon arriving.

Try doing a battery pull and then go into Mobile Network under Options. Manually set it to GSM. That's what CS told me to do and it worked.

    Good Luck..
