Sorry about my multiple posts here but i'm a little computer illiterate.
1) Log into your verizon account
2) Click "My Phone" (the "Go" button underneath it)
3) Click "Phone / device support"
4) Underneath "Help Topics" click "Download Software" in the BlackBerry section
5) "Upgrade Now"
6) Select model and download. You should be able to figure it out from here, but if you can't, then maybe you shouldn't be doing this in the first place.
Is it possible to download an OS upgrade over the air?
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
No. It needs to be downloaded and applied via the usb/bb cable.
Question If I upgrade to the 4.2 OS will I need to re-activate on the BES server?
Thanks
Not sure about BES - I'm not a BES user.
I did the update today. My BB came back from the reset in a Setup Wizard. I also have messages in my BB from VZW ("Welcome to Verizon Wireless") and Blackberry ("Registration").
I had no interaction with my corporate IT people. (Thank GOD!)
I did the OS upgrade and my 8703e seems to run slower. I suspect its because of the new interface enhancements needing a faster processor like the newer devices have. Anyone else experience this?
I've been reading a lot of posts relating to Verizon 8703e users who can now upgrade their OS from 4.1 to 4.2.
I also have an 8703e from Telus Mobility here in Canada. Up to now, I haven't seen any mention of OS upgrades for the 8703e on the Telus website. I forwarded them an email the other day and asked point blank when we (8703e users) would also be able to upgrade our OS. Telus replied to me today via email by stating "Due to the competitive nature of the wireless industry, we do not discuss future software upgrades and releases with the general public. We do test products to satisfy different market segments, but we do not release details about any potential products until their commercial launch. We recommend that you regularly visit our website where we will announce new products and promotional launches"
Anyone heard any rumours or have any inside information???
While out doing our Saturday errands, I visited our local Telus Mobility store so that I could get answers from my provider regarding upgrading my 8703e's OS 4.1 to OS 4.2 that can be downloaded from the Verizon and other US based carriers and what affect it would have.
Their support person explained that if I downloaded another carrier's OS, it would be like getting a phone from that specific carrier. Also, he told me that if I upgraded to a new OS from another carrier, my guarantee and support would be terminated. He suggested that I download and installed the 4.2 desktop manager without any problems. He also said that the 4.2 OS would probably be released some time soon.
For the above reasons, I would strongly recommend any bb users here in Canada who download new OS 4.2 from a US based carrier to be aware of the consequences.
Thank you to all who offered their help.
Yes. Seems to get worse by the day. I have deleted most 3rd party apps to see if that helps any.
I havent noticed it getting worse, but then again I make sure all my extra applications are closed out.
