My friend has a second hand 8700 from tmobile, and his phone shows 3g instead of edge or EDGE. He's in korea right now and i doubt 3g shows here in chicago. What's the deal?

Do you have a screen shot? What does the icon look like?

Being that the phone is in use in another country may mess with the network display... who knows! What does it say his carrier is? And you are positive the mobile network type is 3G?

This does not make any sense... so attempting to clear up the confusion

Have him go into options and look at his Status and his connections, etc.

8707v is 3g and if korea is on 2100 then that's a recipe for success
