OK, so I just bought a new 8703e as a backup for my 8830. From all you that have them... What should I expect? If I could hear from someone who's used both of them, that would be amazing.

It is a very tough device. It more than likely has 4.2 on it so dont expect html email. I know there has been people installing 4.5 on them but alot seem to be having problems. No camera either but it is a great backup device. It wont let you down.

Yeah, I saw that Sprint had released 4.5 for it. Not having a camera isn't a big deal; my 8830 doesn't have one either. Thanks for your input!

I hate the 8830 - the keyboard is difficult for me to use (medium-sized hands), I don't like how it feels in my hands, and the trackball isn't as well sorted as the newer devices.

My time with the 8703e speaks volumes to my preference - I can get an upgrade to the 8830 for free (no questions asked) but choose to hold on to the rugged 8703e.

(for comparison I like the Curve[s] and don't mind the Storm [my wife has one] with the latest OS software)

Had an 8703e for a long time. My first BB actually. That thing is a little workhorse, no matter what I did to it, nothing fazed it. Highly recommend as a solid dependable device.

Sidenote: I wouldn't jump into 4.5 for the 8703e. From what I've read, doesn't play nice with it.

My 8700 was better built than my 8300 & 8900. Great BB.

I had a Pearl 8100 for a year then had the Storm for a month. Now I'm on the Curve 8330 but the keyboard is too small. I was thinking 8830 but I've played with an 8703e at work and would have to say it has the best keyboard I've used so far. I actually might return my Curve for the 8703e rather than the 8830.
