I have a pearl 8120 that is pretty fragile and does like to go wrong, also I want a phone that I don't mind as much if it breaks when I'm abusing them. I know I can get an unlocked ebayed 8700 quite cheaply, but I still have a couple q's:
How durable is it? I've heard it's a tank but want to check.
How different is the trackwheel? (I'm used to trackballs instead)
How good is the battery? (If I have to charge it as often as my pearl it won't be as good a backup)
Will I fall in love with it and keep my pearl as backup instead?
Which variant is the best to get? I've seen all the 8700c's 8700g's etc. what do they all mean?

How different is the trackwheel? trackwheel is more different than trackballs. you have to get used it.

How good is the battery? its great battery's life..

Will I fall in love with it and keep my pearl as backup instead? I bet you will. its AN AMAZING!

Which variant is the best to get? 8700 series, period. However 8700g and 8707g design are soo sexy and elegant!

I've seen all the 8700c's 8700g's etc. what do they all mean? 8700c is for AT&T (USA and international), 8700g is for TMobile (UK, Germany, USA, & international), 8700r is for Roger (canada) , 8700v is for Orange UK. all 8700 series running GSM. I could be wrong.

Ok thanks for the help. I think I will go for an 8700 unlocked then and upgrade it to 4.5. I think all ill miss is the camera and media functions occasionally but I have an ipod classic I keep with me anyway. And if it'll take half the abuse some of my phones, I will love it.
