I've been assuming that the 7290 and the 8700 are pretty much the same, except for a nicer screen...

    Is this actually true?

What does the 8700 get you over what the 7290 provides? (Faster? More features?)

Also, can someone clarify which of the 87xx are Quad-GSM + EDGE... I'm lost in a sea of suffixes here, and I cant seem to find that info on RIM's site.

    Thanks

Is this actually true? Yes that is true. However 8700's physical is little bit small than 7290

What does the 8700 get you over what the 7290 provides? (Faster? More features?) I personality like 8700 over 7290, because 8700 screen is more crisp and sharply resolution. And it has some features improve from 7290.

Also, can someone clarify which of the 87xx are Quad-GSM + EDGE... 8700 running both GSM and EDGE.. EDGE is data only..

I'm lost in a sea of suffixes here, and I cant seem to find that info on RIM's site.

    Good luck with your decision...

    Thanks

From playing with the old 7290 we have at work, I'd say your browsing experience will be better, plus, you know an actual backlight LCD screen is always a plus. The resolution on the 8700 is lightyears ahead of the 7290 as is the OS. You can update the 8700 all the way to 4.5.0.110 if I'm not mistaken, which isn't too shabby.

Granted it still doesn't play Youtube videos but it's definitely not an unsupported device yet. RIM still sells those things by the bunch because they're made from adamantium it would seem. I've had these things come back from people in our sales force absolutely beaten to **** and back and they always work.

I mean, do you really need anymore reasons? The 7290 is outdated as all ****, I think it's time to drop, you know, like $50 on ebay for an 8700 dude.

Yea dalus basically said it all lol. The 7290 is def outdated now a days, the 8700 is just an all around better device. I have been kicking around getting a 8703e because im on sprint. That was the first Blackberry that actually caught my eye and i reeallllyyyy wanted. But i never ended up purchasing one and i think im going too because you can get them on ebay in great condition for like $80 bucks. I would say go check out ebay also and you can get a nice 8700 for cheap also.

    a) You are absolutely correct about 4.5.0.110 for 8700..

    b) really? I really never thought of that.. I will give a try youtube on 8700 to see if its work.. let you know soon.. but I doubt that you are correct..

    c) You are definitely right, he can find great condition & quality 8700 from ebay. he can be lucky if he purchased it for 30 bucks..

    Good luck with his decision..
