Just wondering if older bb OS like 7 or even 6 are still considered safe and secure compared to bb10?

Must be. Our office doesn't even have any plans (yet) to upgrade to BB10 handsets. Not complaining though, since my 9900 still serves its purpose quite well.

A little late but, there is nothing in that article which specifically mentions BBOS. It would appear this never affected BBOS6/7. My 9900 running OS 7.1 also passed the check at freakattack.com like rsrocha81 posted.

Well they stopped supporting the BlackBerry Desktop Manager a few months ago and now they are no longer making or selling any BBOS phones anywhere in the world ...

BlackBerry App World for BBOS is completely dead and very few of the big-name apps world any more.

So it kind of looks 'on track' for end of support December 2015 as was predicted a while ago.

Confirmed that BlackBerry no longer sell any BBOS phones.

It's dead ... you just have to hope no security vulnerabilities are found because they won't be fixed.

If you actually read the article you'll see that BBOS 7.1 is not affected.

Why on earth do people keep assuming that companies stop supporting their OS as soon as they stop selling devices. Nobody does that unless the company goes out of business. In the mobile arena, you can typically count on a minimum of two years of support after buying a device. Blackberry has always exceeded that, providing 4+ years of support.

BBOS 7.1 will eventually reach EOL, but it's not there yet.

No new versions of BBOS sotware have been released for at least two years - even BBM hasn't been updated since May 2015. BlackBerry Desktop Manager went totally out of support last year (including no more security fixes).

Anyone using BBOS is doing so at their own risk! The BBOS browser supports SSL 3.0 - were you aware of that?

Blackberry 7.x phones use TLS 1.0 or better by default when connecting to websites. SSL 3.0 is AVAILABLE for backwards compatibility only, and can be disabled completely.

The blackberry 7.1 OS is still certified for use on numerous top-secret networks. Here is the current Security Technical Implementation Guide for the DoD:
