    Well, the article doesn't have much detail, but Boy Genius states that, according to one of his trusted contacts, that OS 6.0 is in the works, along with 5.2 to be debuted later this year. I wonder what 6.0 could possible have in store for us. :/

    BlackBerry OS 6.0 in the works… Boy Genius Report

    Here's the text of the article:

    "One of our most-solid BlackBerry connects has just dropped word that internally, RIM is starting to work on OS 6.0.

    We can’t reveal details about the OS at this time, but in addition to molding what is OS 6.0, we also know that RIM is working on OS 5.2 which should debut sometime this year. Logical upgrade paths? Definitely. Let’s hope it won’t just be more evolutionary RIM madness, though. More as we get it…"

    I wonder if RIM will continue to support older models especially Bold 9000 with this rumoured OS 6.0.

    There's so much already floating around about 5.0, with even 5.0.0.515 having the new UI for Storm 2 (RE: http://forums.crackberry.com/f151/os...9530-a-414636/), 5.1, 5.2, and now 6.0.

    I'm not sure what to believe anymore. One thing I'm sure of is the new browser, and the new UI is still yet to be seen

    I'm sure they will, but just like the 5.0 upgrade for the 8330, memory will be the biggest concern so, either RIM will do it and leave it up to the carriers to release or, just not even bother and move on to devices with 256+ memory.

    So they are just skipping 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 ect and moving straight to 6.0 after 5.2?

    this just gives false hope... 5.2 should be out NOW, and 6.0 is what should be shipping be end of year... at this rate, we'll be lucky to see 6.0 by 2012, if not 2013... RIM needs to get their act together regarding OS development... They are very much turning out to be the DOS of the smartphone OS world...

    and the one thing they also need to resolve is the stupid memory limit...

    and since this "rumor" is coming from BGR... i call BS... until we see some concrete proof - hopefully by WES 2010 if not sooner, of RIMs future plans and path... i'll believe it...

    typical of recent RIM news... all talk, no action...

    I am hoping that 5.2 drops with the new web browser.

    It makes sense that 6.0 would already be in the works. After all, they keep working on improving the OS all the time.

    I wonder which will come first, OS 6.0 dropping officially somewhere, or OS 5.0 dropping officially from Verizon.

    Great news!!!! But is it gonna be for later models like the storm 3? And is it gonna come with the new browser? Just don't want to have to wait until 2011 for long over due improvements...

    If i had to guess

    5.2 = new browser

    6.0 = new browser + widgets

    and a whole new slew of devices because the ones we have not will not be able to run 6.0... it's a marketing scheme .... mark my words....

    WTH!!! RIM is already working on the next version, which is no surprise to me since they should always be working on the next version immediately after the release of the previous one, but AT&T hasn't even release 5.0 for the 8900. Whats taking AT&T so long? I'm running on the leaked .314 but I would like the official one.

    No way...

    5.0 already has a way to switch from a Zen layout to a Today layout. without the need for a 3rd party theme....

    which brings me to the second point. with themes being so readily available it won't happen in a native form.

    It's going to be browser and/or new UI.

    5.0.0.411 is officially released for the 8900. RIM has nothing to do with AT&T not releasing it.

    Really? I was under the impression it was AT&T job to approve and release it. I've looked on AT&T website and nothing. I'll look at blackberry's site.

    Thanks

    Maybe they will be getting off Java with 6.0. I think 5.1, and 5.2 will just be progressions of better UI, Widgets, Flash Support, Better Browser. The sort of thing that they can do just working on "New" OS 5 Core. If 6 is a whole new Core, then it may make sense that they realize that they need a more developer friendly environment, which Java is anything but.

    Personally I think RIM should Fire their entire QA dept, and stop flooding carriers with releases. They should publish Quarterly releases to the Public directly, and just give the same to Carriers with a 6-8 week lead time. Then it is up to the carriers what they want to support. So for Storm 1, VZW would only now be supporting .328 for their Network and Apps, but if you wanted to go to RIM you could be running .419, or .5xx. With less releases, RIM could do better job on what is in each build, and make sure they are thoroughly tested, documented and that they work. Each Quarter a few new features, a few enhancements, and bug fixes, but stop introducing new defects! Apple and Google own the software delivery to their devices. Sure they partner with the carriers for testing and compatibility, but they release it, not the carrier.

    Just my .02.

    Lol. Well, 5.2 is supposed to be out later this year. I would not be surprised to see 6.0 only on newer devices.

    I would guess that the new webkit could be considered enough of a major release that it would warrant a new number - 6.0. Depending on what they put in it, it's revolutionary enough to be a "gamechanger" in the RIM world. Especially if you do Flash along with it.
    That's only my guess.
