Lol, happens to all of us.

If you dont like the android run time, dont run any android apps on your device.
Posted via CB10
I don't see why that is such a difficult concept to comprehend for some people on the forums.
Posted via CB10
I could imagine how popular that BB10 runtime might be! It would be like creating an OS/2 runtime for Windows. :)
I get the app-gap and reason for having the run-time, but I wonder if Microsoft's approach with Win 10 might be better. Of course, either way, it seems like they are basically saying all your apps are going to be IOS or Android, and our OS will just have a couple features above that.

If this approach increases BlackBerry's footprint I support the move, however I'd never buy a BlackBerry with an Android OS as I'm more than satisfied with BlackBerry OS 10.
The move may hopefully increase exposure and possibly increase BlackBerry OS 10 acceptance when traditional Android users are looking towards BlackBerry.

*warning, parables & pop references*
The end result of letting 'the androids' in would be similar to john snow letting the wildlings in (game of thrones reference). The core users who have been loyal and fighting against the 'androids/wildlings' will not be as enthusiastic with this move as John Snow hopes... despite the desperation.
This move would be seen as a total betrayal, of a man/company who truly is not paying attention; we are already starved and waiting for updates but then you drag in another platform of users and expect the loyal users to be willing to be neglected even more? You barely have enough resources to keep apps remotely updated on your own platform but soon you will be servicing an entire new one?
-------- seriously though.
Why should any developer spend another second working on a BlackBerry app? Why would any 3rd party purchase a novice BlackBerry's desperate android phone, keyboard or not? They already only care about having maximum screen real estate for their netflix and their games; they don't care about keyboards whatsoever (they want thin phones).
The only problem you have currently with your devices & OS is that no one knows about them, & no one has used them. Sure you might gain some scoffing youtube reviewers attention with an android phone, but is that the best promotion you can do? You'll just get blown out completely by the developed smartphones, won't do any better than the thousands of niche android makers and overall you will end up looking cheap. You have cameras and specs that are prepared to take on LG/Samsung (you won't stand a chance) or are you thinking small...like how can we compete with weakly funded android makers (embarrassing company ending defeat)?
Seriously, you're considering demonstrating the most wobbly legs of leadership and lack of confidence I've ever seen.
Put the money into actually seeing whether or not you have a winner with your own phone first. Quit the crying saying no one is buying because of apps and all that because it's not true. The masses aren't buying because to them you don't even exist.
*And here's a quick tip, you will continue to not exist to the masses until you build a phenomenal camera (that's what originally attracted people to massively move to iOS, Android, windows phones initial sales, LG'S latest flagships, etc)... the apps were just icing on the cake. This is what happened in the real world--the "what made you want to buy that" world not the post-- "I purchased the phone world"*
At the core of the cellular battle, the camera phone feature triumphed the keyboard feature--it took the iPhone from a niche phone people talked about into a "can't lose" device. This is not an opinion, this is an eye witnessed account again & again.
When has BlackBerry ever had a camera to talk about? To consumers, especially women, that's the entire hardware battle.
-------
Chen & BlackBerry better stop crying and contemplating giving up with their multi-million dollar making behinds. Their best bet is to get on their bike and build BlackBerry 11, and make it beautiful & modern... then make a huge deal out of it. "And trust me on the sunscreen (err.. the camera)".
It is not affordable for blackberry to keep hardware business if she does not try producing android phones. I will buy BB andoid to help support BB10.
At the end of the day what all the BlackBerry fans have to realize is BlackBerry is a business and as a result will do what allows them to make more money period. If it just so happens that adopting android is that method than that's what they'll do. Keeping CB users happy will not keep the handset division afloat.

No!

BlackBerry needs new customers; the loyalists are a vanishing breed & if the BlackBerry elite spends time reading here for guidance to the phone toting masses pocketbook, only doom awaits...
If the slider is a mexican made QC disaster, the fix is in. Whatever the OS, any more reports of bad product will sink the already listing ship...
Don't like android, but I wouldn't buy an! Phone so maybe I would buy an android secured by BlackBerry but with the BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboard and the hub...

I just don't see how they can possibly compete with the myriad of Android phones out there. Most of us could have paid less for an Android phone that had better specs and a better camera. Slapping the BlackBerry logo on a new one just throws them in the ring with heavy hitters they simply can't compete against.
Instead of that, why not focus on what they already do well...communication. Throw in a better camera, get a better mapping solution, develop Blend. Focus on keeping the niche we already have. Let the masses have their devices but the folks wanting a serious tool will continue to be there provided those tools are not available anywhere else.

Exactly, I think Blackberry's pricing is crazy. I know they're in it to make a buck, but when your competition has phones that are 60% less expensive that should tell you something. I think price is the biggest reason why Blackberry is failing. Why pay $599 for a passport when you could get a LG Stylo for $400 cheaper.
Because an LG Stylo sucks and isn't a Passport :/
Praise be unto our Lord, Squircle | Passport SQW100-1/10.3.2.2204
For those of you saying I support the Android move because it will improve the BlackBerry and BB10. Image, I remind you the Nokia - Windows saga.
This has been said many times - BlackBerry needs to advertise their product. It is not only good, it is the best OS out there in terms of productivity (yes, I've tried them all and I have second Android phone which I can't stand).

Because the LG Stylo has 1GB ram to the passports 3, the Stylo has 8gb internal storage to the Passports 32,the Stylo has 258 ppi vs the Passports 453, the Stylo has a 1.2GHz processor to the Passports 2.26,the Stylo has a 3000mAh battery to the Passports 3450,the Stylo has an 8 megaxpixel shooter to the Passports 13.
Need I go on? Improved specs do cost money you know.
I'll agree with you on the low end though, stuff like the leap is too pricey for what you get.

No, nor would most of the existing BlackBerry users.
Chen has thrown this out there as an unortharised leak to get user opinion. Once he sees that at least 75% of existing users will drop BlackBerry if he releases an Android device, he will then release the unwanted device.
Just my opinion. Let's see if I'm wrong.
I stick to my prediction that once Chen forces the release of the Android BlackBerry, share prices will drop to a maximum of 2 USD, then the company will be finished.
Mission accomplished!

Blackberry is already part Android with the run time. Even if you don't do anything Android on your device, the run time will still transmit your information periodically, something that is beyond the user's control. That means a BB10 device is just as unsecured as any Android on the market. No, make that BB10 device a bit more secured over Android for old time sake.
I hear you on the specs, but that average consumer isn't into all those specs and for those who are, are the specs worth $400 more? All I'm trying to say is that Blackberry can have a top line handsets but they should also come out with a economical hanset as well.
It sends your info to BlackBerry as well...so much for this "secure" myth...
Wrong. No periodic anything is sent to Android/Google if it is not installed. You can even choose if you wanna share anything with Blackberry...they give you a choice when you set up your device. "Send anonymous usage data or no?"
Blackberry also has built in encryption...it's not an app, it's built into the hardware and software.

Blend works great, 13mp camera on my passport. 3 gig on board memory.... I would say it's a pretty updated "tool". :-)
Flying Spaghetti Monster running 10.3.2.840
Wrong again....you have a choice on whether or not your BB sends usage data. Then on top of that...there are many useful Apps in BBworld that do not require tons of permissions to operate correctly.

Choice for usage, but targeted ads on native (so called) for BlackBerry apps from BlackBerry world says otherwise... Many of those apps have permission switches grayed out...
