I would assume BlackBerry already has a certain amount of expertise with Android given their work porting BBM, Blend and doing the ART. If their focus is software now, I could see a scenario where they release a device or 2 running Android with their shell already in place, and either continue down that road or license it out to Samsung or someone else.

What this does in terms of goodwill and those business relationships they have already established is another matter.

No. Android security sucks. Google data mining sucks. If bb10 goes away, windows or ios for me.

I'd look into it, anything to keep BlackBerry around. I carry a moto G with my passport to use apps not available on bb10. So why not carry 2 BlackBerrys, android and bb10.

Sure, I'd buy a BlackBerry that had Android as its native OS. It'd go well with my Mac that has Windows ME installed on it. And my Ferrari with a moped engine.

I think it's a good idea if they can get something in return, like access to Google play services on BB10 phones. Probably dreaming but anyway...

Anything to get better integration with MS Outlook and Lync/Skype. I would prefer they simply address two basic business requirements related to making telephone calls and joining meetings from Calendar :

    - automatically add the "1" to 800/888 numbers (since Telus doesn't)
    - increase intelligence related to Join Now in the Calendar to recognize different phone number and conference ID formats. currently does not recognize my companies default Lync format (xxx) xxx-xxxx (BB10.2 had better Join Now capabilities)

I've only ever owned BB devices, but I'm currently considering going to an iphone since it supports the two above functions.

I'm afraid of it. The reason I've chosen BB is coming from bad experiences on android. Sad times are coming.

I would first be looking at Windows Phone. My experience with Android is mostly from tablets, but I find I am tired of all the permissions even the simplest of apps seem to want, and the inconsistencies of the interfaces. I've also found the things slow down over time, a problem I have not had with my BB.

    So my pecking order is:
    1) BB
    2) Windows Phone
    3) Android

I'm not going IOS because I prefer to buy my phones outright.

As far as I know Blackberry is still producing devices, software, buying small companies and new apps do show up in the App World from time to time. Don't let the Apple and Android bloggers discourage.

I am still on the fence because we don't yet know how they plan to implement the android in their phones. With it run on top of BlackBerry and will it have google services if so? I will reserve my opinion until we have hard facts to review and make a decision. Don't think it will do the battery any favors, that's for sure.

    No.

Whatever apps I have to have on android are completely segregated on a separate Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro.

No personal work gets done with that, not a single email, not a single Web page lookup.

You quarantine android like an ebola patient.

I like what they did already, short of plunging the Amazon app store right into the undeletable files (can we all say 'Ugh!'?). BlackBerry now gives us the option of getting those apps we want that dont come native anymore . I dont want an android phone ever again. Hopefully as the word gets around that you can have BlackBerry without android bu!!$h!+ people will start buying in larger numbers, inspiring app developers to resume Made for BlackBerry apps and we wont have to compromise our phones with android apps and their permissions requirements.

As was stated in other replies, android apps and Google and the phone company bloatware apps is about tracking, in fact tracking even at the expense of functionality, the antithesis of what BlackBerry is about and why people want BlackBerrys.

There comes a point where you find your own line in the sand, do you want android or do you want BlackBerry?

BlackBerry went a long way to meet everyone halfway, and i think they did an amazing job of that, who can blame them if it doesnt all work perfect 100% percent of the time.

In my opinion, the compromise was never meant to make BlackBerrys function with an android button to push for every action, but a safe accommodation of a limited number of android apps to fit peoples needs. And they did all this while their superior quality phones are being priced like second-rate cheap android phones. In all fairness we should have to start paying for what we are getting at some point.

My few android ports for music all function and maybe not as sleek and fluid as their BlackBerry counterparts did (or, still DO on BlackBerry 7), at least i can still have it all with my BlackBerrys!
