Absolutely. Just don't claim it's as private as BB10, otherwise all bets are off! Haha. =)

All kidding aside though, Blackberry currently has two platforms in operation. Some people like Android, others don't, and vice versa for BB10. They both have their place, and they should both have their place in the forums....

Well Android is a lifeline for BB, I don't like it that much, nor iOS (compared to the BB10 ecosphere, sometimes you have to hold your nose though, if you have to upgrade). But I don't think the Droid army needs to come swooping in either, an intentional effect to divide and kill it off, lest it Ressurect, unlike Palm. The irony of discussing this between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday isn't lost on me though :-). BB10 is robust, why wouldn't their supporters be?
QNX still lives, so a vigorous path for BB10 successor potentially still lives (if winter dormant for now).

Though I don't think I see the same deluge of bloated obfuscation by commentors going on in Andriod / iMore Forums . Though to be fair bb10 players are a tougher lot, and don't need to run to safe spaces - they can stand up on their own, they have their mirror, their sword and their shield.
Which is why they can be self-depracating as well.

    +1

But I'm not going to bother to explain why. It'll just get picked apart by the BlackDroid folks. It's not even fun anymore.

I love Crackberry, but the constant "hate" for BB10 from the same three or four people has really made me lose interest in these forums. We get it, you like Android, you need apps, Google privacy/security issues don't bother you, you think BB10 is dead and cannot be revived. Even if everything you say is true (which I don't believe it is) do you have to rain on our parade, especially when a question is specifically about bb10?

Did you all see the video of the gentleman being physically dragged from the United Airlines flight last night because United overbooked? If not, then check it out, it's all over the Internet. I can't speak for anyone else here, but that's pretty much how I feel when I come to Crackberry to talk about BB10. "Oh you're the one bb10 user left? You WILL comply and move to Android, or we WILL drag you out of here"

The android folks will deny it, say they're just offering opinion, conjecture, and conversation, but they often end up monopolizing the thread and alienating the bb10 folks...I'll probably even be banned from the site now for saying it..I jest - sort of.

Just my opinion, and I've been told I'm entitled to it. =)

I'm not sure who it is you speak of, but I don't think anyone here "hates" BB10.

Well, except maybe Belfastdispatcher who's still a legacy BBOS fan.

There's a difference between hate and being realistic of BB10's future.

Spoiler Alert... there's simply isn't one.

All the "what if's' and "if only's" won't change that now. Speculation of what could have been is nice and all, but to expect something to actually change is like believing in unicorns and the pot-o-gold at the end of the rainbow

I love BB10 - still using a Z10 full-time, but my next phone won't be a BB10 phone. Maybe not even a BlackBerry - but that depends. To call it "hate" is a bit melodramatic.

I agree with much of what you say.

For the record though, the word hate was in quotes, demonstrating the author intended it to be melodramatic and satirical. That said, I definitely should have considered the wide range of geographical areas, including numerous countries and the many CB users for who English is a second language before including a reference to a such a subtle and nuanced cultural vernacular like, "hatin' on" or "haters." If you're not familiar with these terms, or similar expressions, Urban Dictionary offers some decent, and often comical examples. Mea Culpa...I see how the reference could have been misunderstood.

I don't believe anyone here actually hates BB10. In fact, I think many, perhaps most, BlackDroid users would have preferred BB10 to have continued development.

But even if we all acknowledge and accept that BB10 is not currently being developed, should Crackberry (which is really what my post was about) not be a place to discuss BB10? After all, BB10 is still a platform for a lot of users.

My point is, you felt compelled to express in your post that BB10 doesn't have a future, and did so from a position of authority and proceeded with references to fantasy....which was a loosely veiled dig at BB10 "believers."

Note: "believers" was intended to be satirical.

But let's even assume you're right, and BB10 (or a QNX OS) is a fantasy.....doesn't fantasy makeup a huge portion of the economy? Just look at Marvel, ComicCon, Walt Disney, George Lucas, etc, etc....all fantasy, but people still congregate around the concepts and ideas, there are entire communities that have developed around them, and yet none of them are any more real than the unicorns you reference.
So, shouldn't the people who want to talk about BB10, be able to do so without ridicule and commentary from the peanut gallery that they're dreamers and BB10 is dead?

People know it's dead(ish). But shouldn't a guy (or gal) be able to start a post to talk about how much someone would pay for a BB10 phone - especially when the very title of the thread demonstrates they know BB10 is dying - without said thread being hijacked by the Android crowd? It seems like every single thing turns into a barrage of anti-bb10 propaganda.

I'm just saying that there is a certain element around here that makes some "BB10 fanboys" seem unwelcome in these forums....and I didn't think that was the premise that Crackberry was based on.

Anyway, it's just food for thought for the folks out there who push the BlackDroid concept...over and over, in every thread.

For everyone else, and especially the OP, my apologies for hijacking the thread, it was not my intention.

The "hijacking" you're talking about IS part of the discussion.

The problem with threads like these is that they're extremely unrealistic - but several thousand people will read the thread, and a dozen of those will take those unrealistic numbers as gospel and they'll start 50 other threads using those same figures as if they were provided by Chen and chiseled in granite on the wall of BB HQ. And you'll also have some of those folks spreading the same misinformation/fantasies on other sites.

It's one thing to at least acknowledge that your post may be unrealistic and shouldn't be taken at face value, but most of the ones that I comment on (at least) are posts where the OP is quite serious. Does anyone really believe that it's in the best interest of the site to let wild speculation get treated as gospel truth here? Because if so, people will consider this to have become a CrackPOT site and think that the folks posting here have moved from CrackBerry to just plain crack.

Respected communities police themselves. Crackpot communities don't. Which should CB be?

It's a fair point - but only to a degree and only when done with transparency. The problem as I (and many others who have commented to me) see it, isn't necessarily the "policing" as you put it, but the un-credentialed policing with a lack of transparency. People tout things from a position of authority, without the credentials and/or disclosure to back up those statements.

Who gets to decide what is realistic or unrealistic; and who are the police officers?

I know many on this site have asked for a disclosure regarding a few certain users' potential affiliation(s) with Google, and have never (to the best of my knowledge) received a straight answer.

When "policing" is done by an interested party (financial or otherwise), there is, by definition, a conflict of interest.....which again, isn't necessarily a problem as long as said conflict is disclosed. People are then able to take a "policeman's" post for what it's worth to them.

Otherwise don't you run the risk of Crackberry being looked at as a bunch of Crackpots who really believe something as nonsensical as "Android is just as private as BB10." Doesn't the risk cut both ways? Won't people take THOSE unrealistic statements as gospel and start 50 other threads using those same unrealistic statements?

If someone is "policing" then shouldn't it at least be transparent, credentialed, and accurate information?

Otherwise, what stops a Google employee, or a Blackberry Mobile employee for that matter, from coming into the Crackberry forums and just pushing their own agenda? Is Crackberry an advertisement platform for Google? Some users feel as though it's already turned into that.

Again, this has gone further than intended....its just food for thought.

    Carry on.

I think many of you who still get everything you need from BB10, are becoming far too sensitive, and reading more into a lot of the responses than intended. There are some posts out of line, most of which get reported and delt with. For the most part, it's an honest discussion, from members who came through BBOS and BB10. Many of them continue to be strong supporters on CrackBerry, helping all they can, as folks struggle making BB10 still viable for them. The last couple years, as I continued to use my Z30, I understood it was a dead end cause, I would have to give up eventually. Denying that reality does the member, CrackBerry and BlackBerry no good. The voices of reason will inevitably chime in. Not because they're paid shills, but because they're part of the family. This shouldn't be an us vs them now, just as it shouldn't have been when BB10 launched. We can all get along respectfully!

    Or I'll ban ya

Oh, and BTW... in a way we have become an advertising platform for Google. At least GooBerry

This makes as much sense, as Ford employees anonymously going on fordberry, telling members how bad last year's model is, in hopes it will generate more sales of this year's.

In a way, isn't the crackberry forum much more useful to bb10 users than android users? Here you can get specialised advise relation to a platform nobody else discusses.

But there are plenty of android forums, leaving discussion of blackdroid to things like phone models, and the small amount of BB software. Not nearly a deep a topic as a whole OS.

Not saying that makes it pointless, but there is a lot more to draw bb10 folks here, than android folks, who might just as well just go somewhere else. I doubt many Samsung users go to a Samsung forum.

What does the forum really offer for current BB android users tho?

Some perfectly great phones, no criticism from me, but what drew me here was technical advice. Same if I have a problem with a windows device, or an android device - I go to places specialising in those OSs.

Oh here's a question of curiosity about BB android - for upgrading, can you flash a rom of the latest update, or are you dependant on over the air updates through your carrier?

Many current BlackBerry Android users are BB10 experts. I would imagine it's in everyone's best interest to keep them around.

As far as what BlackBerry Android users get out of it, this is still by far the largest congregation of users.

There's plenty of information to sort through here. Help with issues, app suggestions, ways to make it more like BB10, ways to make other Androids more like GooBerrys, feature suggestions, and yes, even autoloaders to flash with.

Well that was an education. People arguing in their too.

I guess it is a technical area making other android like BB, security and so on.

If I ever go to another device I wouldn't mind the hub. But I'll probably go windows.

Makes sense that BB use an autoloader for android, given the security issues, and secure bootloader. Flashing a rom wouldn't work.

But at least you can basically do a factory reset of sorts.
