I back up my Z10 once in a while, but I still worry because my computer is getting old. Would uploading the .bbb backup file to One Drive or even emailing it to myself be a good idea or does the file change when you send it rendering it useless?

File does not change when you move, copy or mail it.

Backing up cloud or off site is always a prudent move.

How about a portable hard drive...C'mon man, they are like $40...500GB...
Or a flash drive...even cheaper $10 one should hole a few backups...

I think the point of a cloud service in this sense is that you don't need to go looking for your flash drive or remember which PC you have the update on or if the PC crashes and you need to wipe it, it's all on Dropbox or Google Drive or something.

Sign in to your account download download it and restore it to your device.

I think the file is signed and only can be restored to your phone.

Whether someone can gain anything of value from the file I can't say....

Just zip it and encrypt the zip file with strong AES encryption.

    Get 7zip from 7-zip.org. Free.

Use something like this to encrypt your BBB file... read up here if needed.

    http://www.cnx-software.com/2011/02/...with-7-zip-7z/

Once it's in an encrypted zip container it's pretty safe.

The backup is already encrypted with a password. Adding another layer of encryption sometime can make the data easier to be exploited.

Cool. Did not know it was encrypted. Using what just the device lock code as a password? (ie. 4679 or whatever)
