Did you buy a used device from some source that you can't return it too?

If you have a computer and the ability to download files - there are a number of how to fix a bricked device.... but I would have to wonder why the seller sold it in this condition.

Not really giving us enough information here to work with. Have you tried just charging it before hand for half an hour or so and then turning it on? Is it brand new or used? As far as the OS is concerned, it should already be on there, if not, install link on your computer, connect the device and perform a software update. That should give you the latest OS available from whatever carrier that device is associated with.

Open the back of the phone or look on the box if you have it.
It should say something like STL100-?
Need to know what the number is at the end of the -

the operating system is STL100-3. i got the phone from someone and the said that they had pulled the battery and left it out for a month or so. so battery wouldn't drain. won't turn on when u hook usb to computer red light comes on for about 20 sec then off. if u hold down on/off for 10 sec light blinks then stays on for about another 10 sec then nothing. computer doesn't recognize phone where do I start

I have to say that my old Z10 had a similar issue. I tried everything and nothing got it recognised on Link or my PC at all. Hopefully the OP gets its sorted, but I ended up with a replacement.

Try an autoloader. Has always worked for me even when not recognized.

I'd still say leave it plugged up to the wall and let it charge. If the phone isn't even powering on properly, the operating system is the least of your worries. You said your friend had the battery pulled out for month. Even though it's not in use, the battery could still have lost its charge. Just let it charge for now and see what happens in 6-8 hours.

Doing a search I found this info

flashing in increment 2 usually means soft brick, means you can fix it by reload OS, unless you got 1-3-1 increment...then it is hardware problem
    Try this:
    1. take out your battery
    2. run autoloader
    3. when the ms-dos windows showed saying connected to bootrom, connect your phone (still without the battery)
    4. once the process started put in your battery back in your phone.
    5. wait until the ms-dos windows closed and see if your phone restarted.
    (STL 100-1/2-5
This is the Autoloader I used 10.2.1.2947
    https://mega.co.nz/#!QQlzgRLA!NUlYqX...xae-hBab-u4T5M

Download it, unzip it and run the EXE file (autoloader) as instructed above.

If it doesn't work after several tries, install BlackBerry LINK from the BlackBerry website, this might install a driver that would help Windows recognize the device. (wild guess here)

Before auto loading anything, I would make sure that battery is actually charged, coz it's sounds to me that the battery is dead.
If you have a battery pack that you can charge the battery in, ie not in the phone, even to just get the charging started, I'd bet that solves it.
I would definitely try that before anything else

Charge the battery properly and you won't need to do anything.

We've all been repeating ourselves and the OP is just straight ignoring us and more worried about getting an autoloader working which is not even needed at this point.

Connect the phone to a charger, give it like 6 hours and then tell us if it works. That's ALL we're asking right now. That needs to be ruled out before you do anything else!!
