Windows Phone (now Windows 10 Mobile), like BlackBerry has a small market share, but also like BlackBerry, Microsoft is not trying to compete in the large consumer market. There is still a large enough business market for them to be profitable, and that is the main focus for both.

    Does Windows 10 has Whatsapp?

Whatsapp should be sued for saying BlackBerry10 platform couldn't provide the needed capabilities for expansion of WA's features. That's outright lie and smearing BlackBerry brand name.

Windows Phone 7.1, so anything 2013 or newer (incl. Windows 10) should be fine. For now.

These mobile websites you refer to always seem to exaggerate the situations. I am sure that many of the discontinued apps can be replaced by some third party options.

In BlackBerry 10, YouTube can be replaced by even better third party supertube. We also have a third party twitter and instagram apps that seem to work well.

As for the discontinued games, it is a waste of time and battery anyways.

I see this comment a lot on CrackBerry and I don't understand why. Everyone wastes time and it's called taking a break, we can't be 100% productive all the time. Some people like to play on their phones while taking breaks and BB and MS can't provide that utility. I don't play on my phone, but I consider the option to install games as important as any mobile feature.

There was quarter where I thought things might be looking up for Windows on phones. But I think that was not sustained. At this point I have very little confidence Windows will succeed in phones.

Where I work we beta tested an app on Windows and then cancelled the project after the tests. We have an absurdly small number of customers who use Windows on phones.

I wish people would stop wasting time on frivolous things like games and entertainment. Imagine if they devoted that time to making the world a better place by discussing mobile operating systems on Internet forums.

Yeah it was pulled a few weeks ago.

BBM Windows Phone app isn't currently available in the Windows Store | Windows Central

They really needed to update the app, it was barely usable IMO and missing basic features like calling.

Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile are two separate systems, so take these headlines with a grain of salt. Kind of like the headlines that said that MS dropped support for Windows 7 PCs and inside the stories it said that support was still ongoing for Windows 7 with Service Pack 1.
That being said, one does get a sense of deja vu using Windows Mobile. However it did outsell BlackBerry by 4-1 last quarter and MS is still behind it - yesterday I installed the latest OS update.
Just downloaded Bad Piggies from Rovio on my Lumia. BBM still works but has been missing from the store for almost a month now. It was pretty primitive on that platform as it only featured text chat. I would like to see it replaced with a UWA that would finally put BBM on the desktop.

With all their flip-flopping and backstabbing, being behind the phone or platform won't help.
You presented an excellent example of their distorted and not so clear communication on what's MS or Windows phone or Windows 10 Mobile is and which is being supported. The average consumer would not make that distinction. They are very messy with no clear direction or commitment and this is the perfect recipe for a good toilet flush.
Now we have yet another nail in their coffin with the elimination of the Camera roll in their cloud storage with a reduced free cloud storage limit of 5gb down from 15gb. Not even offering any incentive to go with their platform. This is very disheartening to hear and no official commitment to development in the consumer space of their phones.

Microsoft has done a somewhat similar restructuring as BlackBerry has done. Neither is trying to compete directly in the main consumer market with a separate mobile group, but both want to keep mobile hardware as part of their overall business focused software marketing strategies.

I would think Apple would have better claim to force all desktop developers to support Mac. Might as well force them to support Linux desktops. Force lens developers to support all cameras. All printers to support one type of ink. This can keep on going. Let's doe away with free enterprise.

I have worked with, competed against and partnered with MS over the past 27 years. From my experience I believe MS is done with Windows 10 mobile and Windows phones. At MS shows this year you hear crickets about MS phones and Win 10 mobile. Their CEO has been very vocal about the MS mobile strategy to have their software and services run on iOS and Android. MS will let not announce the EOL for Win10 mobile they will just let it fade away.

Introduction of universal apps that work on both desktop and mobile is now starting to take shape. In a year, roughly when surface phone takes off, their eco system will start to flourish. At least that's my opinion.

I just hope they add a universal hub idea or I am not interested.

It will help some but not every mobile app needs to have a desktop version. I don't see the utility for Snapchat or Periscope for example to make an universal app if they were not going to make a Win10 mobile app anyway.

Yeah, Nadella pulled the plug on Windows Phone hardware and then everything went downhill really fast.

IMO, partnering and then buying Nokia was a major mistake. Windows Phone had a small but sustainable lineup of third party OEMs prior to giving one company special treatment; but, they were alienated as a result of the partnership.

Also, Microsoft was in over its head in terms of trying to absorb Nokia. Microsoft has had much more success with its in-house hardware division than the failing one that it bought.

Anyway, I am not sure if Windows Phone will ever come back; but, it could if Microsoft puts in the money. Not saying that it would ever overtake Android but it could at least retake its 3% marketshare.
