If PB/BB10 operates an Android emulator, is there any reason why it can't do the same for a Windows emulator?

Windows runs on x86 CPUs whereas BB10/PB/Android run on ARM CPUs. There are likely very many CPU instructions Windows uses that aren't compatible with ARM CPUs.

In order for an emulator to work for Windows, you have to emulate most/all of the CPU instructions in an x86 CPU. Since ARM is a low-powered CPU with a limited instruction set, such an emulator will be very slow and quite possibly unusable.

Windows is designed to run on x86. Any emulator would need to also emulate the x86 instruction set. It would be insanely slow. Running on an ARM chip.

Edit: damn, 10 seconds too late.

Ooh a Metro...err.. Modern ...err.. WP8 or whatever it is VM would be cool, at least we'd finally get Skype lol

In reality I think we only got the Android VM because it's a Java VM and BlackBerry have many skilled Java developers given that they built their phone OS with Java for a decade. WP8 would be harder even if they could get passed the fact that Microsoft would sue BlackBerry out of existence lol.

Just curious because I saw a Mac laptop running Windows 7. I guess I'll need to buy a new Win laptop sometime this year after all. :/

Why not? It's already in the works for Android.

Windows RT runs on ARM... So, there's no reason why that could not be emulated on other Platforms such as Android and BB10.

That's right, however you can't run regular windows desktop applications on Windows RT; well, only one version of Office was ported over to it. You're pretty much limited to applications written specifically for RT, which there aren't nearly as many at the present moment (I don't think).

Probably your best bet would be that ARM port of wine that notafanboy posted previously. However, I'm a bit skeptical about how well that will perform. But regardless of how it'll perform, it'll still be great to see that it's possible.

Off topic but I've been wondering about Windows RT 'metro' apps, Windows 8 'metro' apps and Windows Phone 8 apps. Are they the same apps? Or have Microsoft really fragmented their software ecosystem in to 4 incompatible lines when you include traditional x86 Windows Desktop software?

If so no wonder their mobile computing strategy isn't selling, to consumers or developers. Messy.
