Assuming OS 10.3.1 does not have Adobe Flash in it, will the carriers release it for phones that currently have Adobe Flash on them? I am thinking, that they will only release OS versions without Adobe Flash to devices that shipped without Adobe Flash, currently just the Classic. I would not make sense for the carriers to push an OS stripping a feature from a phone and then field all the support calls about why some sites requiring flash no longer work.

The one place 10.3.1 was spotted for a Carrier, Rogers, it was only available for the Classic. Is this foreshadowing of what is to come?

Whut? I think you're overestimating the carriers reach here man. Flash has 0 to do with any of the releases and carrier relations. As for late, well you can debate that but the OS is like a wizard, arriving precisely when it's meant to in 'February'.

    There is no delay.

They said the 10.3.1 rollout will begin in February.

I think you're also overestimating the impact of losing Flash too. The world didn't collapse when Android dropped it 2 years ago - and they had close to a billion users.

I should have left the late out of the original post. I have no idea if there is a delay until there is something official said about a release. I have edited that out of my original post.

Keep in mind, I am referring to older devices loosing flash. The average user when something stops working after an upgrade pushed by their carrier would probably call the carrier for support. The carrier is the entity paying for the people to answer these support calls, not BlackBerry.

Did Android strip Flash out of older devices via a software update, pushed by a carrier? I don't know much about Android, only that I heard software updates are rare on the older phones.

I am not arguing whether we need it or not, just if they will or will not update devices that currently have the feature. If they do, there should be some big warnings before you update.

Flash was never first party on Android, though.

Anyway, since all devices will get 10.3.1 sooner or later, no exceptions, it is most definitely gone.

Yes they did. Summer of 2012 with the release of Android 4.1, Flash support was officially stripped. Although you could still hack it to work.

Was 4.1 available to older devices and was Flash in the OS of older devices? In the post above thurask suggested it was a third party option.

That was the original question, will all devices get 10.3.1? Has BlackBerry ever stated this? The KB article is only referring to the OS, not the devices.

February release is debunked. Rogers has it available now for general download. Sachesi lists it and it has been mentioned in other threads now. I know I am late to the game, but had to be said.

This is the meat of your question and really, I agree with you. I think it will be an issue for some. However, they can't hold anything back based on that.

Not really, the Classic came with 10.3.1 anyway so it's just an update to that. That's like saying it was debunked as soon the Classic was released. The 'February' comments revolve around the wider release of 10.3.1 to in-market device with no 10.3.x version available. Can you load that OS on other devices? Yes. But it's not an official release for them specifically.

Flash was a two-pronged approach on Android. There was a flash plugin provided by Adobe (available on Google Play), which was made to work together with the OS.

With the update to Android 4.1, for new and old devices, Google no longer made the plugin available to versions 4.1 and above, and no longer supported the plugin in terms of OS compatibility.

As I said, you could still sideload the plugin (unofficially), but there was no longer any ongoing support or development from either Adobe or Google.

The bottom line is that the lay person (99.9% of the one billion) who sticks to Google Play Store, lost flash support overnight.

The Z30 has active links available on Production server using Sachesi. Therefore, it is released which is rather surprising as the carriers would of only had a very short time for testing.

Potential OS and Radio links for SR10.3.1.1450 (OS:10.3.1.2072 + Radio:10.3.1.2073)

As far as I can see, it is released before February, therefore, debunked.
Actually that's just a peculiarity with Sachesi. Select the "Z30 STA100-5" as the variant, and you will only get 10.2.1. You are actually only linking the Classic update.

No. Browser bar is just a UI. Most of the meat is in the OS itself.

Flash is a battery drain even on laptops. For me I am glad to see it leaving. You do have the option of not updating your OS and staying on 10.2 in order to keep flash.

I don't want this to be a thread about Flash, just a discussion over whether they can do an update and remove a feature from older phones.

I suppose they can do it, but I don't remember how much detail we get when doing an OS update OTA. Could they put a warning in the update process about Flash being removed and allow us to cancel the update?

    Do this:

Settings > Software Updates > Options > Automatically download and install Software Updates

    Set it to Off.
