I paid what is a large sum for me for the passport & I want to know right now if the Android will be removed or not because:

    1. I need it to run Android apps I require & missing in BBW.
    2. I would sell the passport before it loses all its value.
    3. I would not trust my comm business to BlackBerry anymore.

Can we get a straight answer for once ??

After a year of heavy use, the BlackBerry Passport KB mastery is still quite elusive as evidenced by the title of this thread with the typo I made in the very first word... was it me or the auto correct gremlin responsible? Who knows?

Right now, there is no answer to your question, but I recommend you turn off auto OS updates just in case...

Worst case scenario is that you miss out on the security patch 10.3.3 update scheduled for 6 months from now.

I wouldn't sweat it. There's still a lot to love about the Passport.

I doubt they would do that because it would upset a LOT of people. Almost every BB10 user has at least one android app on their phone. Heck even Skype in BlackBerry World is an android.

The point was that they may be forced by OHA requirements to remove it. BlackBerry wouldn't have a choice in the matter.

Yup. Gone in 10.3.3. It'll be written in bold letter warnings. That's why you shouldn't update.

Too much has been made of this OHA stuff. The runtime will live on as is... just don't expect any massive updates to it or pretty much any.

Agreed. No one will take it away or force an update that would remove it.

But I'd still disable automatic updates come March just to be sure!

Big assumption being update will be released in March. Going by their track record, it'll take them at least 3 to 4 months to roll out across the world. Look at the latest release. US received in June (if i recollect right), and rest of the world, only now.

The point i'm trying to make is that most of the BB10 die hard fans, like yours truly, are likely to be frustrated by the time the update is released, and move on.

The only reason most people are hanging on to BB10, so far, is the security and efficiency this platform delivers. Patience is a virtue, which doesn't last for long.

I doubt that you will get any sort of an answer. Most tech EULAs will give the parent company to push an update that would do something like that to your device without consent or recourse.

If you are worried about it - and you should be - it is time to move on.

Every major change upsets a lot of people. This board has proven that quite a bit in 2015.

March 2016 is probably a deadline given by Google for BlackBerry to have the runtime from its phones.

Of course not, this is CrackBerry.

Everyone will find out by the time 10.3.3 leaks (unlikely) or gets officially released (likelier). In the meantime, speculate away.

Of course, when this happens the stated reason won't be that Google made us do it to release the Shiv. It will be something like BB10 end of life, blah blah, security risks with an unmaintained runtime, blah blah blah...

Purely a guess on my part, but I think current devices will be grandfathered by Google. They'll be able to keep the RT however don't expect to see any updates to it (i.e. no Android 6.0). Also, if BB decides to release any new devices they probably will not have the Android RT included.

You phone (and mine) should be good until we are ready to upgrade (about 6 months for me).

For such a small diaspora of BlackBerry Google runtime users, would Google want to tick us off just to punish BlackBerry ?? I think/hope not.

I agree with this. Google isn't likely to hassle BB about the runtime on existing phones as long as no NEW phones are created with it. But don't expect the runtime to be updated either - it will stay at 4.3.
