Direct yes, miracast nope.
Faster transfers than blue tooth between direct enabled devices, pairing with certain electronics that also support it (digital cameras, printers, etc)

well the Z10 doesnt support miracast. Just wifi direct. The rest of the BB10 lineup can do Miracast though. Remember the Z10 is using hardware that is 1.5 years old while the other devices have newer gen hardware.
Miracast lets you basically display your screen on another device like a TV via wifi direct. Wifi direct is also good for file transfers. it is a direct connection to another device. You dont have to have an actual wifi network to use it. Which is double edge sword kinda. More and more devices support it but its still new technology
Thanks... i want to buy a TV at my Tokyo residence such that I can play videos or show pictures etc direct from my BlackBerry z10... and laptop Also.. does the TV have to have any specific hardware features? sorry for basic questions...

Well, there is no Direct on current 10.2 builds, so direct is a no go.
However, if the TV has wifi and DNLA (if it has wifi then DNLA is almost granted), and both devices are connected to the same wifi network, you can use the "Play On" feature to stream supported content on your TV. Videos, music, images, presentations, and you can even do something else on your phone while it streams.
Or you can do as Howard said, that way you can browse media on from your TV.

you will have to have a TV that supports DLNA which most any smart TV will at this point. this will access media files on your device and play them. But it wont mirror your z10. You z10 will be serving as a media server basically
Thanks!!!
