Seems to me a huge oversight. It's a universal symbol. It's a great sentiment. It would be nice, round and simple. Not talking about the two fingers smiley that's out there, but just the round symbol with three intersecting lines. I'm sure it would be very popular...more so than some of the ones below.

Is there a way to make one? I mean in terms of a combination of characters...or maybe a symbol already exists?

Why not just type the word if it's so necessary? It's only 5 letters long.

That's what I'm doing now. But the symbol would be better for reasons stated above - 1) it's multi-lingual 2) it would be used more than a lot of those smileys I can't even figure out what they're doing

Why, do you felt like one while writing your reply? As far as I know, putting your own thoughts in writing doesn't make you a slave. On the contrary, I'll say.

I think peace is a legitimate emotion. I've heard people say they feel peaceful. It's certainly a feeling worth sharing, and it's a nice way to end a message.

Then why don't we type everything then"if it's so necessary" and forget the whole idea of emoticons. World peace and peace in general is such an important topic today and we can definitely use some more reminders.

On another note. If you're able to find the symbol online (very easy) you can create one for texting/bbm using auto text.

That's what prompted the question...I wanted to add one at the end of a text but couldn't find a smiley to fit the sentiment.

When I think of peace, I feel compassionate. So went look for a peace symbol but it was no where to be found. I started to feel disappointed. So I asked the community where is the peace icon. Someone said it's not a big deal just type it out like a boss. But I want the icon...with such busy thought, I forgot I always had peace in my heart (because I thought about it).

PS: however, it's nice to have a peace icon still.

I agree, but for those who truly have found peace texting is unnecessary ...

Somewhere between the '60s and now, people started thinking that was the sign for peace. It isn't, it's the logo for the CND, campaign for nuclear disarmament. That's why the symbol looks like a rudimentary missile in a circle. The confusion began in the 70's when hippies displayed the sign and had the word 'peace' underneath it. Subsequent generations misinterpreted it like they always do with these things.

Actually, that's not entirely correct, according to this article...the symbol's creator identified it as a symbol for peace when first asked, and the symbol itself did not indicate a missile. It was associated with nuclear disarmament, however.
