Why is System taking so much memory in the resource monitor-img_20140629_121752.png

Why does the system take so much memory and keeps climbing every minute ?

I've always wondered this, and it doesn't usually affect the way the OS runs on my z30, except when loading memory intensive apps they usually just crash or other apps crash.

Btw at the time of the screenshot I have zero apps running.

Would be nice to see improved memory caching or management of some sorts in the future

My system takes half the memory yours does.. I use a Z10, I don't really know how it normally is for Z30 users.

Hey mad have you done a hard reset, and it's probably an app not working right.

Maybe. I have a z10 and z30 and q5 and based on how heavily I use either the memory will reach this point eventually.

A simple reboot brings it back down though. I don't think it has anything to do with any app. Nothing running in the background either.

I think it's the OS that is constantly indexing things as I use the phone, but this is a bit much

How many chats/groups do you have open? If you close them and go back to nothing open that goes down. We don't have the option to clear it after so many days anymore so it just piles up especially if you have a group or two that chat nonstop. I have to close mine every now and then.

This is a weird issue. It needs to be checked out. Right now only June cup app running. To release some memory try closing apps in app manager.

This isn't an "issue". Happens to all bb10 devices. It's more of a flaw somewhat

If you're using data connection (no wifi), the system memory usage will increase. If you then turn on the wifi and start using the wifi, it will decrease. Happens to me too, i usually just reboot my device.

I have this problem too on my Z30. I am not sure if it is a "problem", or it is just the way the OS runs overtime..but re-booting the device shouldn't be the main fix here. Obviously re-booting will always use lowest memory on start..thats common sense..but that shouldn't be the fix here.

Memory seems to climb up too much for the "system" overtime..even though no apps are running.

I hope this problem is fixed, or the OS is optimized on the next update.

Your telling me your system memory doesn't shoot up after a "few days" of use?

    Take a screen shot.

And no I am not running android apps.

No it does not, the highest mine goes is about 1.3g I always have at least 700 or more free.

By what definition of "too much"?

I never understood why people don't want memory to be used. It?s only a problem when you run out of memory, otherwise use it all!

    (^ statement makes no sense)

    Anyways,

No that is not true lololol.

The point is that having more memory free makes your overall system run faster/fluid

Thus memory optimization is very important.

Having 200mb free VS 500mb free makes a difference and so on..

Nowadays, bb10, unfortunately, is the king of high memory usage. Android used to be that before. I am not talking about bloated UI (samsung touch wizz) which takes lot of memory.. just pure android.

Anyway, it sucks. OS killed active frames multiple times when a low memory threshold occurred. So I cannot completely trust bb10 anymore. Not to mention the browser which takes the inactive tabs (even if I have 2-3 tabs) from memory resulting tab reload with lose of information and frustration.

Imho, memory optimizations (beside battery consumption optimizations) should be BlackBerry's priority 0.

How? Free memory is memory not being used and WASTE (by not being used to do work, it's a waste of money and electricity).

You're not making sense. Yes, memory management is needed to have efficient and fast apps, but they run faster by running in ram.

Are you a programmer? I'm not, but I remember what some really senior developers have told me about how linux uses ram. So feel free to technically enlighten me.

Memory complaints are when memory isn't freed after use, or using memory inefficiently. Not using all the ram available is silly.

I have 32gb of ram in my Windows 8.1 machine. Whether I have 20 gb free or 4 gb free doesn't change the performance of the apps in use until I need all 32gb and memory is stored to slow flash.
