Sorry but what the hell....

It's obvious why people want apps. They want to be able to do what those many numerous and diverse apps allow them to do.

I don't use any social media except occasionally and reluctantly LinkedIn. Even then I use the browser. However I have many apps:

Netflix
Dropcam
Nest
ES File Explorer
Swannview
TrackUr Miles

Just to name a few. These apps allow me to do things I wouldn't otherwise be able to do or at least not on the go or away from my home.

Now I can check in on my house, watch my security cameras, turn off my heat, log my mileage and watch a movie all while waiting for a connecting flight.

Is this a difficult concept?

Because... without apps, you would just have a 650 dollar dumb phone. If you want a white brick for dialing save your cash and buy a lightphone or a DIY Arduino phone :P

With an iPhone or Android phone yes...
With a BlackBerry no..why? Because a lot is backed in the OS.. so with no apps you still can use a BlackBerry quite heavily.

For example.... even the vkb on a Samsung is an app..don't know if it's also the case for a BlackBerry vkb...

I'm trying to follow your train of thought here, but I can't. If you are saying a virtual keyboard is an app on a Samsung phone, I would say that this is true, in the same way the dialer is an app on a Samsung, BlackBerry, and any other modern smartphone that I have seen. So without the dialer app, a BlackBerry is useless when it comes to making phone calls; the physical keys will get you nowhere.

If you are talking about apps in the sense that you have to install them separately from the phone's out of the box condition, I've never seen an Android phone that didn't come with at least one virtual keyboard already installed. The iOS keyboard is definitely part of the OS. In this case, this doesn't make an Android device or an iPhone any more of a dumb phone than a BlackBerry device.

Phones are no longer just simply phones, they are literally pocket computers tasked to perform many of the things people would normally do on their laptops and personal computers. Whether it be gaming, socializing, or working, phones are becoming the most common median to do these things and applications are what's allowing people to get them done. I'm not saying they're necessarily replacing the traditional devices, but with their portability and ease of use its no wonder why so many rely upon them to do practically everything.

....And to do that, you need applications, an area where blackberry is extensively lacking natively. No offense to devs who continue to support the platform.

I'll admit, prior to creating this thread, I was consumed with personal feelings about the current events that have occurred. Numerous deaths, unconstitutional laws being passed, and ever changing policies that effects us all. When I tried to dialog with people on social media they had little or no input. Most were just concerned with posting memes for likes and who got drafted.

I understand the desire to socialize, be amused, and simply be entertained. But where do people draw the line and pay attention to what's going on?

To answer your questions. I stopped going shopping with my long-term girlfriend years ago. It's too time consuming. She tries on everything from the socks to the hat. LOL

Your conclusion is correct in a sense. Wrong nevertheless. I have no affiliation with none of the groups. I wouldn't be surprised if government agencies were watching me. I feel disconnected from this artificial reality of capitalism.

This thread is so utterly strange and grotesque, that I will just say one thing:

You don't seem to know a lot about empathy. You don't seem to understand that different people will have different values, connotations and desires.

The key sentence here, is that you wonder why you didn't get some nice responses on social media concerning topics you are interested in.
You then keep on ranting, with a subtle (euphemism) hint of a god complex, how you are the only one around being interested in what's going on...

We have 2 easily identifiable problems here:
First of all, whatever you are interested in, mustn't be of interest to anyone else.
You wanna talk about politics and your friends/acquaintances/strangers on Twitter apparently don't want to.
They seem to be much rather interested in posting funny cat pics. And those guys and girls won't understand why you aren't interested in their funny cat pics.

Simple advice: get a social entourage that has similar interests and start to be empathic.

Your second issue is your subtle god complex.
This one apparently keeps you from going to the next level of understanding, because you think that you already understand something, which actually isn't the case.
Your lack of empathy clearly shows that.

Personally, I find it strange to be fixated on productivity. A human should have deeper and more complex values than productivity.
Productivity is a need for our modern society. I would never describe it as something a non-workaholic would want to achieve. Being productive is a mean, not an end.

Well, you asked about apps, and the answer is pretty simple:
People want to enhance the capabilites of their phone (if this means using Tinder, or Docs2Go is completely irrelevant).

Buying a BlackBerry actively shuts me out of the possibility to enhance the capabilites of my phone with apps.
And no, nobody gives an eff about 3rd party alternatives (let's say for Snapchat for example) or some weird patching instructions on how to get Google Play Services on your BlackBerry.
It's even obvious why:
Buying every other phone in the carrier store (or buying what my friends have) will not make it necessary to uselessly tinker with my phone, in the hope of maybe getting app X to work.

So, to conclude, people want to enhance the capabilities of their smartphones and they want to do it easily (talking about the vast majority of buyers out there obviously).
It doesn't matter if those are productivity apps (lack of them was the reason why my enterprise ditched the BlackBerry support) or entertainment apps.
Thus, buying a BlackBerry is pretty much a no go and as long as BlackBerry doesn't get access to the Google Play Services, this is unlikely to change.

Again, the only flaws people could deconstruct was my grammatical errors. None of my view points were far-fetched. My approach was unlike many have seen. I have no problem revealing my identity and taking accountability. A false claim followed by a false conclusion shows consistency. Some of you took it the wrong way as if I had malicious intent. When you fail to address the topic at hand and criticize grammer, it reflects your true intentions.

Just to explain it to you:
When someone tells us how great he is, how socially dysfunctional everyone else is from his race, except for himself, tells us about his degrees and how intelligent he is, but then doesn't even get an idiom right....

Then I'd say that the nitpicking is fully deserved, simply because of the ironic hypocrisy.

I have a BB10 phone as my private phone though, because I am not that much of an app person myself and I prefer BB10.

BlackBerry has a marketshare of around 0.3% currently.
I totally agree with you, that there are still people buying BlackBerry phones even though there is no ecosystem, but honestly, how low do you want that number to get?

The BlackBerry business model presents to the client base as schizo-affective inasmuch as the supposed CEO says software with BlackBerry security while they seem to be purchasing companies with security software the must not have at BlackBerry; & they bring out high end hardware with bottom end build quality with little evidence of hearing what their miniscule customer base wants. They threaten to do away with the android runtime on recent models when many of the few owners purchased due to that capability. I have been using an old iPhone 5 inbetween BB10 handsets, and boy, bb10 is an amazing OS. So clean, simple, and relaxing. My thumbs are thanking me, as is my brain. The funny thing is that 10.3 really hurt a lot of what was great about bb10, but it's still better than the alternative.

Apps be damned.

I strongly disagree. There are several apps, for instance, that are great health and fitness assistants. There are documented cases of apps being appropriated for use with kids with learning delays.

The real-life examples are literally too numerous to mention.

Depending on one's station and circumstances, apps can have a strong positive effect on one's life -- even if it is from the endorphins gained from playing the "evil" games we malign on CB.

I am sure there are millions and millions of people who don't agree with you. I guess you could say the same thing about the TV shows, movies, sports, etc. They serve both educational and entertainment purposes, and are both needed. The same with apps. Hey, you are using one right now (CB)!
