    Hi Folks,

Because of a recently flakey Dell laptop, my BB devices have filled the gap as my go-to devices for home computing use.

However, because my Z10 only supports 1920x1080, I am forced to use my PlayBook for 1920x1200 HDMI output on my 26" monitor. This means I must use the playbook's older browser which does not support "desktop mode" which limits the Web browsing experience.

Do we know why the more powerful Z10 limits HDMI output resolution vs the PlayBook when the Z10 is supposedly the new "mobile computing" platform?

I am actually trying to use these devices as mobile computing tools!

how to you'll get resolution 1920x1080, if Z10 only have resolution 768x1280????

    here's the specification:

it's seems like you want resolution of ATI Radeon 5xxx HD, but you only have ATI Radeon 2xxx

    ............. ????

@kndl You should first read the specs, the hdmi supports 1920x1080 on the Z10, so the question is a good question.

Once again BlackBerry failed to deliver on their own hype. I wonder whether Thorsten is too enamored with in-vehicle infotainment systems.

I don't get the comment on hype here
I'm pretty sure the limitations are simply based on current popular movie format. Since that would be what you normally output on it.

It's not for a desktop replacement. Would be nice but sadly no mobile or tablet quite do yet

i am sorry but are you actually asking why you cannot stretch the 1080p resolution to a 1200p resolution device?

its HDMI and TVS are 480p, 720p and 1080p, it wont output in something larger then the wordwide HD format will it so i dont get why you think that is an issue.

thats like saying, hey why doesnt my 1080p bluray play at a resolution of 3840 2160? because that is not the format of the film.

anyone who thought this was a good question doesnt get resolution and file formats at all you cant have HDMI streaming at non HD formats. HDMI does not work like your comuputer that can is more of projecting a screen and you cna stretch the window if you want to full screen it, HDMI will out put in 480 720 1080

Hdmi type b can go up to 2400, hdmi 1.4 up to 2160. Hdmi 1.0 is designed to be able to handle 1200 at 60hz, so the op as a good question.

I think it works by having an additional display buffer that is a copy of what is shown on the on-device screen. So whatever resolution the on-device screen is set to is whatever the HDMI output will show. It's not a "second" display that can run at a different resolution, but a copy of the buffer.

My guess is that most people don't need to display anything at a resolution that high so it wasn't feasible. Then there is always those added costs. Almost all of the popular high end smartphones don't even have an Hdmi port. I see this as a great feature on BB10 devices not a failed promise not delivered.

prove it, the resolution of a 60 inch 1080p HD screen is still 1080p, there are no screens that are 2600 what you say makes no sense?

U have UHDTV which is 2600 but we dont make 2600 format UHDTV films yet, we also have 4k2k in cinemas and being made is 8k4k

hdmi type b is in development and no screens currently have been made for cosumers that take it, so once again the question is obselete. In the case of his question its 1080p and that is the highest HD resolution so it will not output higher then that.

    description of HDMI A & B

The Type A connector has 19 pins with bandwidth to support all SDTV, EDTV, and HDTV modes.[2] The plug's outside dimensions are 13.9 mm wide by 4.45 mm high.[48] Type A is electrically compatible with single link DVI-D.[49]

The Type B connector has 29 pins (21.2 mm by 4.45 mm) and can carry double the video bandwidth of Type A for use with very high-resolution future displays such as WQUXGA (3840x2400).[50][49] Type B is electrically compatible with dual link DVI-D but has not yet been used in any products.

dude you will loose my job is knowing all this.

Not all screens are tv's, some of us use a monitor with hdmi input, with way higher res then your 1080p. My 26" is 1920x1200 with hdmi input. And for specs on hdmi, you know that the capabilities of hdmi are higher then 1080p we just don't need them for watching tv or simple PC monitors. Soon with 4k tv's people will need the higher specs, and they are all ready built in to the newer hdmi specifications.

Is the extra 120 pixels that big of a difference? I'm sure your monitor can auto size the video to make it fit and look just fine on the screen... or you can move out of your bedroom and get a big boy tv, problem solved
