ExFAT is a heavily patent encumbered closed file system which works with just two computer operating systems. When my Z10 decided to format my SD card with ExFAT, I had to format it to FAT32 in Linux to make it readable in other OS:a than just Windows and OS X.

Please, stop with this nonsense file system.

So your gripe is because some Linux platforms don't want to pay Microsoft for a license fee to use this file system, then it's automatically a nonsense file system based on no other merits? Sounds like your beef is with the Linux distribution you are using, not the actual file system which is supported on the vast majority of desktops in homes today.

FYI it is supported on Unbuntu, and is being handled under the FUSE project for other variants. So you should double check if you can start using it right now through one of these implementations. Source:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exfat

And if you want people to stop using it, which would be dumb because it is designed and optimized for flash memory, then you should start with the SD Card association who adopted it.

The ExFAT driver being from Microsoft is irrelevant as it is downloading on other systems fine.

I still say it can't hurt to try putting you new SD card in your phone because the worst it would want is for you to format the card (which you should not do if it is ExFAT formatted already).

OK thanks for the advice. Will do that today when it arrives and see what happens.

OK so I got a brand new Kingston 64GB card in the mail today. Popped it into my Z30 with 10.3.0.296 and got the same old error message. can't download the driver. I popped it out and will keep it aside till the next reincarnation of the OS. Hopefully it will work then.....

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that this is just a limitation of the early 10.3 build you are running.

I think this must be it. When I had 3175 on my phone I was able to play the music in my car thru BT instead of the skipping and popping I have now. I can't wait for another 10.3

Giving it another week I guess and then I will fall back to 3175. everything worked for me then.

Interesting. Says DO NOT format the card in a non sdxc device which BBRY are due to no driver at first.

All I did was pop it in. And I didn't format it on my pc because that will destroy the ExFat formatting from what I understand.....

I did that with the one I have currently. And although it works as an SD card, it plays music but not through my BT....

I formatted my card in my laptop to exFAT and my Q10 and Z30 both recognized it without any issues, for some reason it feels that the indexing process is a lot faster too. Granted my card is a 32 GB one, hoping to get my hands on a 64 GB one sometime soon though.

They say that there are no issues with 16 and 32GB cards...but the 64 is another issue. I have two 64GB cards and neither can get that driver downloaded on 10.3

You mean connected through Link? If so that's just how Link is reporting them because they are definitely not NTFS. :-)

So I conducted an experiment. I have a 32GB card which I formatted in my laptop using the SD card formatter found at the link Underway posted above. The card formats in like 30 seconds. I pop it into my phone and drag some music on via usb cable (read: SLLLLLOOOOOWWWWWWW) and the music plays great through BT in the car.

BUT, it will take upwards of several days to drag all the contents of my 64GB card from my laptop through USB to the phone (where the 32GB card now resides.) So....yes the 32GB works but you have to load via USB. Nothing else works. No other combinations. Needless to say, I am forgoing music from my phone in my car till I dump 10.3 and go back to 10.2.1.3175 which had none of these issues.

Nope. I mean, I CAN but when I do it somehow corrupts the card to stick it in the computers sd card slot. If that makes any sense. I believe Underway said this was a discussion at the Android site....could it be that simply putting the card into a card reader on my pc makes the files unplayable??
