I absolutely prefer thecurrent method.
One-handed thumb-swiping up/down feels natural.
One-handed thumb-swiping left/right feels like wrenching the ankle.
If they want to make it clearer for the not so tech-savvy, they can apply some indicator graphics on the current screen too. E.g. green handset at the bottom, red one on top of the screen.
Hate it! Hope that doesn't happen! Or that they make it optional

I don't like the new style. I prefer the up and down swipe method and here's why - I think it is more intuitive and in line with other UI paradigms. To answer a call, pulling down towards you means "come here closer to me" and that's what I think when I want to talk to someone. To reject a call, flicking up means "go away" the same way that it meant to close apps on the Playbook (and ironically the latest iOS 7 task switcher). It's like swatting something away from you and distancing yourself.
A left or right motion doesn't really make sense if you try to equate it to something. Flicking left doesn't mean anything really compared to flicking right in my mind. I'm not sure how you would think one or the other was intuitively different in any UI paradigm.
The simple answer? Allow users to choose what UI they want for calls, with the default the way it is (up and down). Same as how some people like light or dark themes - let them choose. I will chose up and down in a heartbeat.
Keep the friggin up and down thing. We want blackberry, not android. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezz
In the end the easier way out for BBRY would be to have both options.
Everyone has an opinion.
Keep the current one but switch the answering to make it up... it feels more natural this way, similar to how you unlock the phone..

I see only one problem with it, the answer should be swipe to the right and not to the left... They got it wrong..
Maybe they can make it cutomable for left handed and right handed to choose how to swipe to answer directions ???

I don't like it. Up/down makes way more sense, and frankly matches the rest of the UI elements in the OS. This new call answer screen is horrible and looks like it was ripped off from a cheap Android clone.

Agreed on both accounts.
I was a new method hater till I tried it.
Looks really nice and natural.
Its fool proof in regards to silenting the ringer when being called also.
More real estate for the contact picture

It is. The few times I have used it today it works a lot easier.
I guess I just don't use my phone as a phone often enough, I couldn't get used to the up/down, though I think also they needed to make it more apparent which direction did which.
This is nice, simple, very obvious which direction does what. I'm a huge fan of clear, obvious interface design.
I too wish it was the other direction, but I think I know why it's the way it is. Most phones have the Answer button on the left, and the End Call button on the right. Because of the history there, they likely will keep it this way.

Oh man with more pics it just looks garbage looks so cheap.Give us what we already have tweak that to a see through bar above the pics once we swipe down we will see the full pics anyway.Just give us fancy animation of the small pic growing large when we answer the call.
I think it would be great if we had the option. But the side swipe would make it a bit easier for one handed use :) just my two cents :)

What I find about those who said clear and obvious interface, is that I don't see how swipe up or down is not clear or obvious. It states directly on the screen swipe down to answer the call. The complaint I heard is most users do not swipe ALL the way down but than why would those same users swipe all the way to the right.
It's like removing the sleek looking panoramic sun roof on a car because the users don't know that they have to hold the button long enough. Instead of teaching lets just remove the panoramic sun roof and replace it with a moon roof this way they don't need to worry about opening it.
If BlackBerry does allow both ways this would be acceptable, as long as the original is still the default and it can just be a customized option to change. I've never been against choice.
i love this horizontal swipe method instead of the vertical method. keeps my hand more in place when making the gesture.
Q yes Z no
A choice between the two would be best

I think it looks kind of ugly and generic.

For me I welcome any change to the swipe to answer calls as the current one tends to freeze a times

I am using it and it is much quicker to do correctly, especially one handed and with a thumb. On the Q10, this swipe area is just above the top fret, so you have a tactile reference to aim at the right spot for the swipe.

Not sure cause I don't have it, but one issue I had was if the phone was in.my pocket it would silence itself if accidentally touched on the screen. Now it looks like you have to hit an exact point which means less missed calls. That's if my assumption is correct.

Mine freezes almost every time. I have to try two or three times to get the bar to swipe. It's like it's sticky.
