You go out and buy something else WiFi Direct compatible like a TV or dongle that you can use with your already existing TV.

Can we now send data between two 10.2.1 phones using Wifi direct initiated via NFC?

Make sure you don't have a Z10. They aren't supported at the OS level.

Download Noted, my 5-star rated, native BB10 notepad app.

    No, not the same thing.

Wifi calling is voice over ip, aka VOIP which in basic form uses special audio codes to encode voice calls and transfer them over regular internet connection in supported systems and networks. The system BlackBerry 10 on t-mobile uses is different from the more common UMA based system used in previous BlackBerry devices.

Wifi direct is a peer to peer version of wifi, kind of like a super bluetooth for transferring data between devices.

In your case it's the wifi-direct feature of the TV enabling this, which basically turns your TV into it's own private access point. Think of wifi direct as if wifi and bluetooth had a baby, speed of wifi with device to device communication of bluetooth. When it pairs with your z10, which just sees it as regular wifi access point, the dlna features of BlackBerry kick in enabling share/streaming your media content.
There is still no wifi direct on the z10 itself

You sure that it's not using DLNA? All Z10s support that, but it's different from Wi-Fi direct. I think only the 100-1 actually supported it, and on only the earliest OS 10.0 builds.

I thought Z10 didn't support miracast, but did support wifi direct. Although, now that I think about it... I haven't bumped into any settings for it. : /

The Z10 does not support Wifi Direct. The STL100-1 is the only variant that is actually capable of supporting it, but they haven't enabled it for either one of us Z10 models

Berry Review states otherwise back in August. Even claims it was confirmed by our own Bla1ze.

    So... ?

Lots of sites reported that back then, there was a mixup with the claimed support. Even CrackBerry reported it as coming at one point.
Clewley has since stated that it will not be coming

A Z10 can participate in a Wi-Fi direct "device group" even though it is not Wi-Fi Direct capable (cannot create device groups) itself:

"Do products certified under the Wi-Fi Direct program interoperate with my other Wi-Fi devices?
Yes. A Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Direct device is able to make device group connections with existing Wi-Fi CERTIFIED gear."

    http://www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-direct

So the gentle person with a Wi-Fi Direct TV above could theoretically be using a Z10 with the TV in a Wi-Fi Direct device group, not via DLNA.
