And why would you want BBM protected? If you contact you ping with doesn't have BBM protect it doesn't work out.. I have a hard time convincing people to use BBM, so I wouldn't dare convincing them to pay $12 a month for something as BBM :P

    BBM Meetings doesn't need BES.

BBM Protected needs both parties to be on a BES with a subscription to the BBM Protected service.

    Hello,
I'm not trying to say you are wrong but maybe I am not understanding something . Please go to exactly 40min14sec of the presentation of today.

With the way the documentation and presentations were I was unsure if they had opened BBM Protected for non-BES users, but I guess not.

I heard what Jeff Gadway said and I didn't understand where he was getting his facts from on that one! Maybe he is talking about some as yet unreleased version that works in a completely different way to how BBM Protected has worked so far? Seems unlikely to me.

Currently the only way to enable BBM Protected on a BB10 or legacy BBOS phone is via an IT Policy setting on the BES server that the phone is activated on. In addition to that the encryption keys he was talking about, where not even BlackBerry can decrypt your message, are the encryption keys of the BES server that the phone is activated on so a BES is rather fundamental to how BBM Protected works.

Here are the BBM Protected system requirements:

Here's the BBM Protected Overview KB article:

Here's the BBM Protected documentation where BES is listed as a requirement on page 7:

    Hello,
Thanks for the clarification. Mr Gadway must have explained it wrong and there are two different bundle for enterprise using BES.
    Thanks again
    Best regards

So all of BlackBerry's technical documentation for BBM Protected is wrong? And the way people have been using it for months is a figment of their imagination?

Jeff didn't write his own script, non of the people who present at BlackBerry's launch events do. He's a marketing guy and a good presenter. He just delivers the words, he doesn't have to know if it is correct, that's someone else's job.

I've already said they may be completely changing how it works in the future. What you need to get over is how it works right NOW.

If BlackBerry change how to works I won't be "proven wrong" as I'm completely open to the idea that they can change it in future as they see fit.

I'm finding it quite silly that you can't accept how the product works right now today even after reading BlackBerry's own technical documentation. This thread warrants no further input on my part, I've laid down the facts rather than the conjecture, I bid thee farewell.
