At this late in the game, what would a 4.4 runtime upgrade give us over our current 4.3?

BB10 is still fine for us accustomed to it, but we're basically dead as it is.

What would it gives us over 4.3? Pretty much all apps which only run on 4.4 and higher. And there are tons of them

And then in a few months those same apps will only support 5.0.

The runtime is frozen at 4.3 due to contractual OHA agreement with Google. Even if it was not, any major changes to BB10 are not going to happen as BlackBerry is focused on its Android platforms.

I don't know about the contract with Google, but BlackBerry told all the developers awhile ago that the runtime will no longer be updated. The message has been reposted several times on the forum.

Yes, and that happened right around the time BlackBerry officially announced the Priv, and that it would be running "the Google".

    Coincidence?

    I think not.

Probably no coincidence. But I was pointing out that BlackBerry had already made an official statement that the runtime would no longer be updated. People here keep putting it in their wish list even though BlackBerry has already said no more runtime updates.

It's not a coincidence. If they wanted to sell the complete Android experience then they had to freeze the runtime at 4.3. It's google's intellectual property so you follow google's rules.

    I know...

That was kind of my point.

The developer announcement about freezing the runtime happened right around when BlackBerry went public with the Priv with it running full Google Play Services android
