I think people really need to start posting the origins of their phone, like:

    STL100-3, AT&T branded
    STL100-3, from ShopBlackBerry US
    STL100-2, from ShopBlackBerry UK
    STL100-4, from Verizon
    STL100-1, from Airtel India
    STL100-1, from ____ carrier-free shop in India
    etc, etc.

Just posting "I got 10.3.2" doesn't really help. Obviously 10.3.2 is out in the world--we know that already. But why are some people in India getting it and not others? That's what we're trying to nail down.

Exactly the point. But I still don't understand why OS updates in BlackBerry are carrier dependant?

I don't think it has been released in India. My z10 and z3 are running on Airtel and Vodafone respectively. Both are on 10.3.1. No update.

They are only for branded phones, i.e. phones sold to you by carriers. For unbranded phones, BB pushes the update. Note that I said unbranded, not unlocked or even factory unlocked phones.

As to why this arrangement exists, it's probably because carriers are the first line of tech support for phones they sell. They want to reduce the number of calls they field, so they "test" the hell out the OSes before pushing them out. It's very likely a symbiotic relationship because BB wouldn't have the manpower to deal with all the calls that could come flooding in for each and every branded phone out there.

Such branding thing doesn't exist in india except for cdma phones.. unlcoked phones are sold by e-commerce or retail shops. Noone goes to carrier store to buy a phone. I did see some devices at vodafone store of samsung but I think it was just one device.. for BlackBerry we r lucky that we r able to buy phones still here. Say for passport we got only black version no red or white(white might be I cant swear on this one) but when I got it was just one black model on amazon... RED passport doesn't exist here. And for the carriers they are busy charging whatsapp viber skype calling services and fighting over these issues they haven't got any time to listen to carrier related problems let alone when they sell devices. No unlocked phone is sold by carriers and even if its almost to nil noone goes and buy from them.

Well, if it's unbranded, it is not North American.

Check the box your phone came in, if you still have it. It should list a retail region on it. Mine is on the side, where the IMEI, etc. are listed.

Dats too much to do what you are asking him to do. Lol I bet again he wont do it just like when he asked for HOW to update and conite told him how to and he simply said he wont do it lol.. so again I BET he is not gonna check box of his phone.. I gave him option of just one click away and I wonder if he is really going to do that even.

The problem here is that you have no idea what the source of the device is.

Are they repackaged carrier phones from other jurisdictions? Are they shopBlackberry devices? Are they Amazon devices - and if so, from which one?

    Herein lies the dilemma.

This is why people should learn how to update themselves. It's easy. It's fast.

I do every new update myself to save even a single day of waiting - let alone weeks or months. It takes no time at all. I'm not sure what the big deal is.

I cannot speak to the distribution channels of your local phone outlet. BlackBerry probably can't either.

This is not true. There is no regional differentiation with OS builds.
