Seriously - the 10 series all make sense, but the 30s and 20s and 5s don't. What happens when OS11 hits?

My guess is that they will eventually drop it and just call it BlackBerry OS whenever BB6/7 is EOL...the sooner the better.

BlackBerry 10 is OS version 10. This has nothing to do with phone numbering. The 10 in Z10 and Q10 don't necessarily have to do with the OS.

Just like how Apple is now on iPhone 5s but the OS is iOS 7.

We did go from is 7 to 10 though. I'd imagine there is some relation.

We went from legacy BB OS 7 to PlayBook OS 1 (which was OS 8), then PlayBook OS 2 (which was OS 9), and now the new phones which brings us to OS 10.

    That's just a coincidence...

I follow several BlackBerry employees on twitter. A surprisingly large percentage of their tweets revolves around alcohol consumption.

There's a lot that i like about BlackBerry 10. BlackBerry provides the most intuitive and efficient mobile OS I've ever used. I do wonder though if we'd have fewer of this type of question, and if BlackBerry as a whole would be more competitive if their product leadership spent more time sober...

(Oh, and don?t take this musing too seriously =D)

Download Noted, my 5-star rated, native BB10 notepad app.

At the introduction of BB10 at BlackBerry World in San Francisco the reason given was to underscore the significant number of changes between BBOS 7 and BB10.

Similar to how BBOS versions did not correspond with the phone numberings, BBOS 7 vs Torch 9810 Bold 9900, etc.
BB10 OS versions do not correspond with phone numberings either.

From what I recall bb10 was to be bbx (BlackBerry and QNX) But BlackBerry changed the name for legal purposes. I think there's a company out there with BBX as a registered name. So BBX the OS became bb10.

I had heard that the "X" was for the Roman Numeral for 10.

I believe the 10 signifies the evolution of BlackBerry following the 9900 rather than continuing onto the 10,000's.

RIM became BlackBerry with the BB10 roll out which brought us the Z10 and Q10.

    Now that there is a Z30, Q5, Z3, Q20, etc.. I don't see why there wouldn't be a BB11.
