Just a guess, but as said before. This maybe the bootloader or some sort of firmware for testing the unit. I would try an autoloader for what ever OS you want.

Care to share for us "unenlightened" users?
Looking through an autoloader/cfp info screen shows the OS blacklist, and what's usually blacklisted are 10.0, old 10.1, 127.x (trunk builds) and 4.x. No clue what 4.x was until now; it seems to be a testing platform for repair purposes.

Maybe that is some kind of diagnostic software from when the phone was being worked on and never taken off before it was sent back to the OP. He did say he asked for it back before they were done.

Was the phone ever turned on after getting it back, but before replacing the screen?

    Posted via CB10
The phone was never turned on prior to installing the screen

There are plenty of guides on autoloaders. A quick search on crackberry will show you the way.

If i do a auto loader as opposed to calling blackberry, will the phone still be able to update in the future? I am on Bell

Yes... you already replaced the screen yourself, so I'm pretty sure whatever warranty might have existed is out of the picture. Now just follow through and finish the repair job, you have nothing to lose.

If Bell pushes out an update that's newer than what you autoloaded, yes.

I will add that when I sent the phone to Blackberry originally it worked normally other than the smashed screen, which i posted back in December. I sent it away in may for a estimate on fixing and got it back in June as per my request as I didn't want to pay for the repair. When I got it back, I never turned it on until yesterday after replacing the screen, that is when that menu appeared. So yes, it is something blackberry did. I am however impressed that the battery lasted since may... says 59% still on the diagnostic screen

Anyway that's the rest of the story... will try to restore with link later tonight, if that doesn't work will use a autoloader as suggested here

More like 0.4. It looks like an Atari 2600.

Wonder if you could use Darcy's Tools or another app to "backup" this Utility OS?

But as others have said... I imagine the first thing the do is install this utility app that also wipes your devices - don't want some tech posting private pictures of your girlfriend online...

Once the repair was finished they would reflash the current OS and ship it back. But as you didn't have it repaired, it missed a step. Should be good to go installing a fresh OS using an Auto Loader... (just for fun see if LINK recognizes it).

I'll bet you would need special diagnostic software on the PC side to see it then.

Darcy's or Sachesi probably can't see it either since they rely on the standard BlackBerry USB driver that Link uses.

An autoloader might be the only thing that could get past it.

Of course it doesn't hurt to call BlackBerry and let them know..... it it's fixable, they'll walk you through it. And an hour or so later maybe they say were sorry in a way you would appreciate? Doubt it, but you never know.

Not a bad idea, doesn't hurt to phone them just to see what they have to say. I would think this is a big error on their side
