What would BlackBerry's future be if, Elon Musk bought BlackBerry and turned it into a...Tesla?

I think Tesla has something that is futuristic with worth that most people can understand. It has no (or maybe one soon) competitor and is at the forefront of a technological breakthrough. BlackBerry has nothing innovative in handsets that can't be done on the competitor's devices in some capacity.

Elon didn't buy a car company and turn it into Tesla.

He did buy the factory (carcass really) of a failed big company joint venture for very little money. He didnt, however, buy Saab or Chrysler or some other failing car company and then try to turn that into something great. I think if Elon wanted to build an IoT company or a car infotainment company or a phone company, he would do what he normally does and hire a team of amazingly talented people and go off and build it.

In fact, if you've seen a recent version of the Tesla infotainment system, he has something very interesting to build on right there if he wanted to compete with QNX. They even have rolling OTA updates to cars working pretty well now.

Exactly. Elon is all about being lean and mean and spending money on significant talent rather than headcount. He'd raid BB's staff if he thought he needed their talent, but he'd have no use for the company as a whole. The last thing in the world he'd care about would be BB smartphones.
