Alright! So just to be safe i did a security wipe before i load .1055(i saw somebody saying that it's better). I am running 10.2.0.4xx and it has been more than an hour. It is still on the shredding icon, I'm kinda worried so I want to do a battery pull but before I do something stupid, what can happen if i do? I already have a backup and the leaked OS ready on my computer

Nothing happens. The wipe continues when you put the battery back in

Ok I'll wait 1 more hour( it will be 2 hours and 30 minutes since i started). If it still is not done then i will battery pull, if it gets bricked then i can just run the autoloader and it will install the OS right?

You can't brick your phone during a wipe. A wipe is a security process that is irreversible. Once it starts, it must complete before the phone will be usable again

If it does get bricked, can you confirm that if i run the autoloader it will install the OS and everything will be alright?

Never ever EVER perform a battery pull when wiping.

Even moreso, never ever EVER perform a battery pull. Shut down the phone by pressing and holding the power button, selecting shut down, and then when it's off THEN perform a battery pull.

I didn't know what that shredding icon was about so I thought the OS didn't load well and pulled the battery and left it out an hour.

In regards installing the battery I got a black screen with a yellow triangle with an BlackBerry error code.

Attached phone to pc and ran the autoloader again and got the OS installed.

    Nothing happened to the phone

All this chap about bit doing battery pulls is crop. BlackBerry help forum suggested I do a couple of pulls to recalibrate my battery. If it was destructive they would not advice to do it.

Pulling the battery won't hurt the hardware, but it did trash your OS. That's why you shouldn't pull the battery on a running system. It is just like pulling the cord on a running desktop PC. You may get away with it, or you may corrupt file systems.

So in my case, it was Ok because I was going to replace the OS anyway. But don't do it just because you are impatient! Wait at least 2 to 3 hours

My factory reset via link ran 5+ hours yesterday. I got worried, powered down, pulled the battery, and had the yellow triangle error code. Reloaded and all's well. However, 5+ hours for a reset?!?!

Question: Is it best to do the security wipe via the settings on the phone rather than via link?

Wiping via link and phone gave same result. But from link it backs up first before wiping, as far as i can remember.

The wipe restores the phone to factory state. It leaves the OS, and securely wipes all of your data. If the wipe is interrupted, then it restarts. After a number of retries, the bootrom kicks in and completely wipes the device. At that point, you need to use link or an autoloader to restore the phone.

I pulled the baterry once and got stucked with a bricked z10 once. Had to reload trough an autoloader.
Best way to do it is with link, at least it shows the progress of the wipe and I belive is much faster.
