My Passport did this today while sitting on a table in airplane mode. My Z10 has also done this with no connections on at all and not being used when this happens. What is it, anyone know? I hope it's just a 10.3.1 glitch and that it didn't get hot. Was 28c inside.

Try to soft reset while long holding volume up and down.

I've tried to connect this case to many situations...
Sometimes it seems to be caused by android apps.
I shut them all off and the "system" starts to relax.
One app that I'm 60% actually did this after a few incidents so I removed it was the play store by cobalt.

So if you catch your phone in the act (hot and sluggish) go into device monitor and start killing apps one by one. Until it eases up.

How was the signal at the time? When I'm in a weak signal area my phone searches for signal, gets hot, and eats battery like mad. Hasn't happened lately and was worse when I had my Motorola.

Cobalt's play store isn't the reason. I'm running it myself and have not seen an issue with it

It was just sitting with the mobile network and WiFi off and on airplane mode, no Sim even. No Android apps on any of my phones right now and the Z10 had done it right after a security wipe. Input services even looked like it was consuming a lot of resources. I say, what kind of sorcery is this

Well here it is again. I just picked up my z10 which has been sitting at home with the mobile network off and it was stone dead! Text messages used that much? I don't even have my sim card in there. Really hope there's not a ton of heat going on when this happens..

I saw that many data traffic monitoring apps have an unexpected high energy consume when the networks are off. I tried several apps. While 2 or 3% are normal when the networks are on, it can increase up to 10% and more when the network is off. I discussed this with a developer of one of these apps and he was surprized himself about that.
